Stuff We Love
This month marks a special milestone for me: the start of my seventh year writing for Santa Clarita Magazine. Writing these monthly articles has been a journey of perseverance, and I’m proud to have maintained it. As someone with ADD who’s interested in many subjects, I find that staying focused is easier when I’m passionate about the work. Sharing my thoughts on diverse topics feels almost like journaling—capturing my perspective on current events and our pluralistic society, with the bonus of seeing my words in print. I also feel a quiet pride in seeing my art published alongside these articles. To date, that includes seventy-two pieces, each marking my progress as an artist. As Legace said: “Be persevering at the bottom, humble at the top.”
In each article, I try to look on the bright side and encourage others to do the same. I remind readers to do nice things for others without forgetting their own needs—self-care isn’t selfish. Sometimes, we need to step out of our comfort zones and face challenges directly. Overcoming fears can make us feel stronger and more accomplished. Putting ourselves first, even occasionally, is a powerful way to relieve stress and recharge.
There are plenty of ways to refresh our spirits, from taking classes in cooking, art, dance, or yoga, to exploring new destinations. These activities bring joy, help us connect with ourselves, and add a little adventure to life. Building connections with others—whether by going out for meals, attending concerts, or simply gathering with friends and family—is essential for mental and emotional health. Staying engaged in the community keeps us connected and relevant.
As we move forward, I hope we’ll all continue creating happy memories, staying positive, expressing gratitude for loved ones and life’s small pleasures, celebrating milestones, and looking forward to the future with excitement.
