Being A Thrifty Shopper – Assistance League
My first time shopping at a resale store took place after I became an Assistance League® member. Really, I had no reason to seek out a resale store in my neighborhood. After all, I had a good job, and I could afford Nordstrom’s prices. Well, actually I could afford my Nordstrom’s monthly bill if I didn’t charge too often! So why would I be interested in a resale store? As you read on, it will become clear.
Assistance League Santa Clarita is an organization whose focus is supporting students and families in the SCV community. I volunteer at its main fundraiser, the Resale Store, on Bouquet Canyon. Each time I step through the door, I swear I find something new to love. I am totally hooked. There are so many wonderful items in every department. My favorite section is Housewares, where I started and have added to my collection of vintage and unique treasures.
I’ll give you a tour of my home. Let’s start with the entryway where I have fresh flowers in a cut crystal vase. From where? The Resale Store! I adore the teapot collection in my dining room. Want designer labels? How about vintage Limoges and Bombay Trading Company? Yes, I’m still a gal who is all about the labels!
The Tiffany lamp above my piano along with the pedestal serving plates when I entertain? Yes, all of those are from the Assistance League Resale Store. They were thoughtfully priced, and I didn’t have to finance a thing.
As much as I love my treasures, it touches my heart that my purchases support Assistance League programs which enrich our community. With school starting soon, my volunteer hours and purchases will provide new clothes, shoes, or eye exams and glasses for a child.
If you are like me, thinking that you don’t need to shop at a resale store, you probably don’t. What I am saying is: want to. Come and shop with a purpose. There are so many great treasures waiting for you to discover, while making a difference in a student’s life.
