Spring Pet Care Tips for Dogs and Cats – No Place Like Home
Spring is a great time to be active with you pets. Spring brings warmer weather, more outdoor time, and new seasonal risks for pets as well. A few simple precautions can help keep dogs and cats healthy and happy during this time of year.
Spring cleaning products can be harmful to pets. Keep cleaners, detergents, and chemicals stored safely out of reach. Avoid leaving buckets or rags with cleaning solutions where pets can access them, and consider using pet-safe products when possible.
Many spring plants and flowers are toxic to dogs and cats. Lilies are especially dangerous for cats, while tulips, daffodils, and azaleas can be harmful to both. Always check plant safety before bringing new plants into your home or yard.
As temperatures rise, fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes become more active. Make sure pets are on veterinarian-recommended flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Check fur, ears, and paws regularly, especially after outdoor activities.
Pets may be less active after winter months, so increase exercise gradually. Start with shorter walks or play sessions and build up slowly. Always provide fresh water and watch for signs of overheating.
Spring is also a good time to schedule wellness checkups. Routine exams help catch potential issues early and ensure vaccinations are up to date.
With a little extra awareness, spring can be a fun and healthy season for both dogs and cats. For more information about No Place Like Home please email info@noplacelikehome.vet or call/text 818-400-1986.
