With the onset of another hot California summer upon us, I want to share my professional tips for keeping your makeup looking fresh and staying put throughout the heat of the day.
Always wear a sun protection factor (SPF) 15 or higher to avoid the damage that UV rays cause over time. Choose one that is specifically designed to wear under makeup so it won’t turn makeup orange and cause oiliness. When we are young we sit and bake in the sun with glee, but pay for it later as we age. Then we want a miracle to repair the damage. I love a tinted moisturizer with SPF 20. This is the most modern, effective and carefree all-in-one product. Senna’s Barely Base is water resistant, oil-free, infused with vitamins and evens out skin tone, a perfect solution for the hot summer days. It’s so natural looking in full daylight that it’s completely undetectable.
Wear an under makeup primer. This type of product allows your makeup to last four to six hours longer than normal. Senna’s Silky Primer designed for the professional is a must-have for everyone who wears makeup. Apply primer over moisturizer and under foundation. For blush, I suggest a cream formula instead of a powdered one, as it holds best in hot weather. Apply to apple of cheeks for the most natural effect.
Protect lips by wearing a lipstick that contains Vitamin E and an SPF. The thin delicate lip area always seems to experience dryness. Keep lips moist and covered all day long.
Eye makeup always seems to fade in summer. To keep it on all day, use an eyeshadow primer before applying eye makeup. This will lock color in place and keep it true to color. Use cake eyeliner with a sealer to insure long lasting wear. Pencil liners melt with body heat and cause undereye smearing, creating dark circles you never had.
Set brows with brow fix to keep color on and hairs in place.
Set your entire face with an invisible setting powder. This specific type of powder keeps makeup in place and never appears dry or cakey.
