Linda’s Wish List for 2026 – Stress Free Mortgage

Instead of New Year’s resolutions, I decided to come out with a wish list of what I would like to see in the coming year, and hopefully, some of it will come true!
Interest Rates – I would like to see interest rates go down to the low 5’s in 2026. I do think this is feasible! It’s luckily not a complete pipe dream. The pipe dream would be for rates to be back in the 4’s, but I’m not sure 2026 will be ready for that quite yet!
Home Buyers – My hope is that future home buyers are not waiting until interest rates go down. Home appreciation has continued to grow, and there is plenty of equity that home buyers could have gained over the last few years. Delaying a purchase to hold out for rates to change doesn’t always add up. Especially considering that when rates do eventually go down, there are so many others in the same boat, who have been waiting on the sidelines and will flood the market and drive up home prices with competition.
Credit Card Debt – Although some do have lower interest rates on their first mortgage they don’t want to part with, if they have credit card debt, they may also be paying historically high interest rates on those credit cards. Ultimately, it makes more sense to refinance at a higher rate on their home mortgage to pay down credit card debt. It may not be something that many think of doing, but it may be more beneficial in the long run financially. I’d love to see more people looking into this as an option next year!
