A common complaint we hear around spring and summer, is that people are going on vacation and want to wear skirts or shorts, but are too embarrassed by unsightly red or blue spider veins on their legs. Laser vein therapy works by delivering pulses of light energy to the affected area causing the blood within the vein to coagulate. This will destroy the vessel which is then reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to deeper veins below the skin’s surface. Veins from all parts of the body can be treated including small facial veins.
Cutera CoolGlide laser treatments are quick, less painful then sclerotherapy, and are very effective in reducing or removing visible spider veins. Three treatments are recommended six to eight weeks apart to achieve optimal results. The most common side effects associated with vein therapy are slight reddening and local swelling of the skin in the treated area. These effects typically last less than 24 hours. Mild exercise is permitted immediately following treatment, and patients can resume running within 48 hours. There is no need for elevation of the legs or compression bandages as is necessary with sclerotherapy. The use of sunscreen is recommended for one week on any treated areas exposed to the sun.
