In a lecture I attended recently, a dermatologist was discussing the best ways to treat the skin of peri-menopausal women. As a part of the class we went over the “seven best and seven worst” foods for skin. I am listing them here for you in order to promote healthy skin at any age, from the inside, out.
Seven Best Foods:

1. Avocados
2. Wild salmon (not farmed)
3. Coconuts (use the whole pulp for full benefits)
4. Green tea (also good topically)
5. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale)
6. Berries (all kinds, all colors)
7. Bone broth (when you cook down bones for soup. Great for hormonal balance)
And I’m sneaking an 8th one in.  Fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchee, yogurt and miso soups are also great.
Seven worst foods:
1. Potato chips (all fried chips are high glycemic foods and spike blood pressure)
2. Skim milk
3. Fried chicken
4. Donuts (for obvious reasons-sugar!)
5. Peanut M&M’s
6. Barbequed meat
7. Sodas
Some of them are pretty obviously bad foods for everyone, but the subject of the lecture was specifically about peri-menopausal women. The good foods are also good for everyone, but each food on the list provides a vitamin or other ingredient necessary to maintain younger looking skin, in addition to the other good benefits it has for everyone.
