The natural tendency in life is for people to hate lawyers.  They are very expensive and besides having to pay your lawyer, you have to put up with the aggravation caused by the lawyer on the other side.  Things that are private and personal risk losing that protection.  Besides being expensive, litigation is emotionally draining.  You may think you have a great case.  But you might be wrong.  And being wrong can be very costly indeed.

There are some alternatives available to resolving your dispute.  Mediation can be very effective.  With mediation, a neutral person facilitates communication between the parties having the dispute to assist them in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.  It is an entirely voluntary process with the mediator acting as an intermediary.

It is a private process which is much less expensive.  The parties usually split the cost of a mediator as opposed to paying their own attorneys fees.  And the mediation sessions are a lot less time consuming than any litigation.  Sessions can run from a few hours to a few days, depending upon the number and complexity of the issues.  Litigation is designed to be adversarial.  That is probably why people hate lawyers so much.  Litigation tends to be a field of gray.  But with mediation, the parties get to tell their side of the story and work towards a compromise.
