The Body’s Detox Program
Our bodies are constantly working hard to detox from all of the harmful exposures we come in contact with on a daily basis. Very often this natural detox system gets sluggish or stuck due to environmental toxins we come in contact with, the types of foods we eat, and our bad habits. When we overload the body with toxins and unhealthy foods, the body’s detoxification systems don’t work as well as they are designed to do and we get sick. Simply put, our bodies don’t function very well when they’re loaded with toxins. We may have joint pain, headaches, digestive disorders, sleep problems, and lack of energy. Long-term exposure to toxins affects our metabolism, behavior, immune system, and leads to disease.
The good news is we can improve the body’s detox activity by simply changing the way we eat. That is right!! No fancy and/or expensive detox programs or supplements – just good, wholesome, living, colorful foods. Many foods work together synergistically to help the body rid itself of the daily toxins and are actually healthier when eaten together. Double-Duty Duos such as olive oil and leafy greens can lower blood pressure; black pepper and turmeric can increase the anti-inflammatory properties in turmeric; spinach and oranges can increase absorption of plant iron courtesy of the vitamin C-rich orange.
Detoxing assists and improves what our bodies are trying to do naturally. Regular detoxing helps strengthen immune system functioning and fights off infection. Toxins affect the body’s natural ability to burn fat, leading to weight gain. Detoxing rids the body of toxins stored in fat cells and increases metabolism. Detoxing can slow premature aging by ridding the body of free radicals and heavy metals partially responsible for aging. Detoxing helps to increase nutrient absorption, including antioxidants and vitamins. Depression may be eased and memory may be improved as a result of detoxification! Detoxing can improve mental, physical, and emotional energy. Detoxing improves acne, and strengthens hair and nails, and gives us a natural, healthy glow.
Our digestive, nervous, and hormonal systems were designed to work together to achieve optimum health. When we restore balance to our body’s systems we can make better decisions, analyze accurately, and see things differently.
Our bodies have a built-in detox function to deal with dangerous toxins, but those systems are constantly overloaded. Most importantly we need to support our bodies with this detoxification process by eating real food to bring balance back and help our systems function properly again.
