Tell Me Something Good – April 2018
Spring is here! And my allergies are just killing me, well, I actually think everyone’s allergies are on high alert right now. With the weather change comes a change in outlook, mindset and often times people are just generally happier in the warmer months. I know I am! A true June born, I just live for the summer time. As I searched the avenues for positive and uplifting news this past month, I was beyond grateful to see the tide of positivity in my social media feed. After a rough loss of young life, it feels good to honor the opportunities we have, and life for each moment.
Congratulations to the Hart High School Cheer Team for their 3rd place win at Nationals in February. What was the last official competition for many of the girls moving on next year, the opportunity and experience the girls gain is vital to their growth as young women. Thank you to all the moms, volunteers and teachers that help lift these young women up and give them a creative outlet they can shine in. And a special shout out to my girlfriend, Janel March Richardson for sharing her photos, and for being such a huge part of the team’s continued success.
I recently spent some time at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital. During my stay I was treated by the most kind and caring medical professionals! As the rotations shifted, I met my new nurses, saw new specialists and eventually said my good-bye’s leaving back to great health! I am truly grateful and extremely thankful for the doctors, nurses and medical professionals that give so much of themselves to help each patient be well enough to go back home.
And speaking of amazing nurses, Santa Clarita resident, and Henry Mayo nurse Francesca Milhoan was recently awarded the Daisy Award for her kind, compassionate and intuitive nature caring for her patients. The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. “Nurse Fran” as she is known by many, is pictured surrounded by her family.
During the month of February, the ICE Recovery and Wellness Family campaigned to raise awareness, goods and gift cards for the SCV Domestic Violence Center. Spreading the message, “Because Love Shouldn’t Hurt” owner Troy Yudin along with this staff, family and friends “raised almost $1,000 in gift cards and gave the shelter far more than I could have ever imagined… stay tuned to see who won the private party at ICE!,” said Troy. Last week the official “boss” of the company pulled Danielle Padula’s name as the winner for the Private Ice Party. We think it was pretty darn cool of everyone who participated and supported the SCV Domestic Violence Center. The work they do is beyond important, and they are changing lives on a daily basis.
Closing out this month’s edition of good news, we are pleased to share that the Santa Clarita Valley was recently ranked 6th in the state and 16th in the nation via WalletHub® article of 2018’s Happiest Cities in America (Mar.12, 2018). It’s a testament to everything we work so hard to foster within our “small town” community. With so much new growth, we still remain true to our City’s roots in celebrating family, community and giving back.
