The March winds blow in that slightly anxious feeling that the end of the school year is within reaching distance. People start to make plans for the summer and even the fall. But if you have a small one just ready to start his or her school career, it can be an even more stressful and emotional time.

In an effort to maintain its cutting edge exposure to manufacturing technology, the College of the Canyons welding technology department has installed Laser Touch Sensing adaptive control systems on two of its robotic welding machines.
According to Lincoln Service Technician Christopher Joseph, touch sensing is “the first line of defense against poor weld joint repeatability.”

Play is child’s work; it is a foundation for learning. It is important to realize that “just playing” is a very effective way for young children to learn. Kindergarten is so demanding and requires a good foundation of academic skills. How do young children get the academic knowledge while playing?

With all the running around we do as parents, it can be difficult to figure out what those priorities should be. There is pressure from our children to support their involvement in multiple activities, pressure from the school to make sure they stay on top of all their homework, pressure from coaches to put sports activities ahead of all else, and the ultimate pressure of making sure our children are happy, healthy and safe!

While his sights were set on becoming a child psychologist, Santa Clarita resident Howard Crampton Jr. soon realized his journey took him elsewhere, inspiring others and helping them discover a more empowering, self-fulfilling life.  A life with purpose.  A life with passion.  A life with power.

The beloved Irish holiday, St. Patrick’s Day, is celebrated each year on March 17th in honor of the Christian missionary, Saint Patrick. He was born in Britain in 385 AD. At around the age of 16 he was taken away from his village and was sold as a slave in Ireland. Patrick made his escape six years later and traveled two hundred miles to the coast of Ireland.

There was no shortage of creative opportunities for Dody Rogers while growing up.  In fact, it was at a young age that the Santa Clarita resident and artist discovered her love for art.
“My father was an artist,” states Dody.  “He worked at Walt Disney Studios and because of it, I was always surrounded by incredible artists.” 
Dody’s love for the arts carried into high school and college, taking art classes to further hone her skills.

In choosing a school for their children, parents consider many important criteria: test scores, appearance of the facility, credentials of the teachers and the quality of the curriculum.  It is surprising, however, that more parents do not place the ability of the school to develop their child’s character and spirit as a top priority in choosing an educational environment for their student.

One of the most dreaded things a tutor may hear when working with a student is “I’m stupid.”  Why does this evoke such a strong reaction on the part of the tutor and why is this cause for alarm?  Why does this trigger an immediate plan for a change? Perhaps it is because so much of our own individual self esteem is locked up in our ability to read, write and do math well.

Communication is fundamental to a child’s development. It is at the heart of relationships – it’s how we get to know each other – and it’s essential for learning, play and social interaction. Most of us learn to communicate innately in childhood.  But what happens if your child has difficulty learning to communicate?  In addition to specialized speech therapy, there are many things a parent can do to encourage communication development.

Two hundred and fifty-six junior high and high school students from SCCS piled into cars on February 26 and 27, and headed out to serve at more than a dozen different ministries throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
This two-day event called iServe is an experience unique to SCCS.

She’s the fun loving 16 year old who has captured the hearts of her audience worldwide.  Meet Santa Clarita resident and actress, Amber Montana.
You may recognize Amber as she stars as Taylor Hathaway on Nickelodeon’s new live action supernatural comedy, The Haunted Hathaways.  While she may seem like your every day normal teenager, Amber’s character, Taylor, shares her home with a family of ghosts.  The show chronicles the exciting adventures of the Hathaways and the Prestons, who are literally from different worlds. 

Children’s engagement in play happens so naturally and effortlessly that it is easy to take for granted the powerful role it plays in their development. For most children, play begins within the first few months of life and quickly becomes richer and more complex along with other developing skills. Given that the domains of children’s development are all inter-related and influenced by one another, play is in fact essential to cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being in children.

Nestled among the hills of Canyon Country you will find a treasure sitting atop one such hill.  Leona Cox Community School is part of the Sulphur Springs Union School District and this year the school is celebrating their 50th anniversary.  Leona Cox is a TK-6 grade school including special needs preschool thru first grade.

Whether you’re in high school or college, school requires doing a lot of studying if you want to do well. But there comes a point where you need to take a break and relax. This is important as it relieves stress and helps you to take stock of everything you’ve just studied. It’s a good idea to do a quick recap of everything you’ve gone over right before jumping back into the fray for more studying. Not only will this greatly improve your overall grade in all of your classes, but it will make your life outside of school much more relaxing and enjoyable. Not to mention you will have some time away from long drug out books.
