Why Do 50 Percent of Marriages End In Divorce?
Although there is no definitive answer to that question, I believe the biggest problem is lack of true intimacy. I believe they never learned intimacy and/or they chose a partner who never learned. As a result, they entered a relationship with someone that wasn’t capable of loving them or they weren’t capable of loving their partner.
What caused this breakdown? Think of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. At the lowest level is basic survival. Many children grow up in some state of emotional and/or physical deprivation and are forced to resort to survival instincts. They lie, steal, or cheat to get their emotional and/ or physical needs met developing dysfunctional behavioral patterns.
Vocal Aerobics: Keys to a Healthy Voice
Many people complain of voice problems. The human voice is the outward expression of our inner emotions. Most people use their voices to make a living and many people may experience difficulties with their voices over the course of a lifetime. Singers, actors, lawyers, athletes, teachers, preachers, and parents all commonly struggle to get their voices to do what they need them too. People in all different stages of their lives can suffer from vocal problems and it can be a tremendous source of stress and unhappiness.
Are There New Treatments For An OLD Problem?
Heel pain is one of the more common problems affecting the foot and ankle. While there are several different conditions that can cause heel pain, plantar fasciitis is definitely the most common. Traditional and conservative treatments for plantar fasciitis are usually successful; about 90 to 95 percent of people with plantar fasciitis will recover fully with no lasting problems. Most people get better with the right combination of conservative treatments. These include: rest, icing, stretching, night splint stretching (this provides a prolonged stretch of the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia), use of over-the- counter arch supports or custom orthotics when appropriate, physical therapy (including various modalities such as laser light therapy, ultrasound treatment, iontophoresis, soft tissue mobilization, etc.), and cortisone injections are sometimes useful (but are used sparingly). For feet that don’t get better with these methods, a period of immobilization in a walking boot or a cast can help the plantar fascia tissues to heal.
Was I At The Dentist Today? Sedation Dentistry
Want to know a secret? Dentistry does not have to be painful—or scary. It’s important to know that a visit to the dentist can be a positive experience, even when treatment is necessary. Millions of Americans, nearly 30 percent, are afraid of the dentist. They avoid dental care at all costs, even when they are in pain or discomfort. But it no longer has to be that way. Modern dentistry offers safe, effective, and comfortable treatments to anxious and fearful patients.
Your Body Clock: Four Easy Steps to a Balanced Circadian Rhythm
1. Make a Schedule
• The most important thing you can do is to set a schedule for waking and going to bed, and then to try and follow this schedule as closely as possible. If you can do this, your body will naturally begin to adapt its circadian rhythm to this schedule, and will begin slowing, or waking, your body on its own.
• Getting into this schedule may take some practice. To assist preparation for bed, start a routine of relaxing activities just prior to bed time. It could be something as simple as reading or watching television for thirty minutes. This will give you time to unwind and it will also send your body a signal that you are about to begin going to sleep.
Vision Deficits Often Result From Traumatic Brain Injury
A person who has suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or cerebral vascular accident (CVA) may often experience difficulties with balance, spatial orientation, coordination, cognitive function, and speech. In most cases, a referral for visual consultation only occurs if there’s an injury to an eye or if ocular pathology is suspected. Persons with a TBI or CVA frequently will experience symptoms of double vision, movement of print or stationary objects such as walls and floor, eye strain, visual fatigue, headaches and problems with balance, to name several. Frequently, people will report problems with their vision to rehabilitation professionals and be referred for eye examination. Unfortunately, many will be told that there is nothing wrong with their eye and that it is the effects of their TBI or CVA. Others will be told that their symptoms are not related to their vision.
Slash, Strip and Toss
The branches had mightily grown over the years, peering over the wall from my neighbor’s trees, and had encroached on the roof and gutters of my home. I asked my neighbor for permission to cut some of the branches and she consented.
With the help of my friend who stood fearlessly on his scaffold, the branches tumbled down and invaded the grass completely like a band of locusts that could cover up the skies. In less than 10 minutes the chain saw cutting was complete, but the cleaning was to follow.
Dentistry Updates
There have been many exciting and new developments in dentistry that the public may not be aware of. Some of the more popular and useful advancements include in-office whitening without the use of a light or laser, all natural mouth rinses and toothpastes, digital radiography, and mouthguards for the treatment of migraine headaches.
Whitening is a common and popular procedure offered today by many dental offices. However, recent advances have allowed the development of whitening gels that can be applied at a one hour dental visit without the use of lasers or “special” high intensity lights. The patient can sit in comfort watching a movie, without requiring the application of sunscreen or ultra-dark sunglasses, while getting their teeth whitened!
Tai Chi and Weight Loss
Most people know Tai Chi as a series of flowing movements and breathing exercises that increase flexibility and mobility while decreasing stress. Yet one of the lesser known yet proven benefits of Tai Chi is weight loss.
It is estimated that over two-thirds of Americans are overweight, and one-third of those are “obese.” Both designations are marked by notable and sometimes severe health risks. According to the National Institute of Health, overweight and obese individuals are more likely to suffer diabetes, stroke, heart disease, reproductive problems, and osteoarthritis.
Benefits of Reiki
Energy flows through all living things. Even though it is unseen it has a tremendous effect on the quality of health of all living things. Many cultures since ancient times have realized this existence and recently there have been scientific experiments confirming this and consequently, medical doctors are considering the role it plays in the well being of the immune system and the healing process.
Braces: Surfing For the Facts
There are so many questions that arise when making decisions about braces. Does my child need braces? Am I too old to have braces? Will it hurt? How much does it cost? Is a jaw surgery or tooth extraction absolutely necessary? How long will I need to wear braces?
Orthodontic options have changed radically. Current technologies have greatly improved the esthetics, efficiency and comfort of braces. Consumers want to be informed of these changes and depend on the Internet for information. The search engine results for “braces” yields hundreds of sites, not all reliable information. Where to look?
Happy Memories or Household Hazards?
Clutter is a problem all too familiar to family caregivers. The issue is not unique to seniors, but some age-related conditions, such as strokes or dementia, may make it worse – or even dangerous.
While the source of clutter can be anything from outdated medications, to a kitchen full of unused pots and pans, to a closet filled with decades-old clothing, the biggest creator of “clutter chaos” is actually paper. An accumulation of daily junk mail, bills, newspapers and magazines can quickly overwhelm seniors who are struggling physically, mentally or emotionally.

Qigong at weSPARK, SCV
All our healing programs are designed to enhance the quality of life for cancer patients, their families and friends. This month we are teaching Qigong (pronounced “chee-gung”), an ancient (5000-7000 year old) internal Chinese meditative practice which often uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to promote the circulation of qi within the human body to enhance overall health. Qi is considered “the fundamental life energy responsible for health and vitality.”
Sleep Apnea
Obesity or being excessively overweight is one of the main risk factors for obstructive sleep apnea. Many people suffer from sleep apnea, as they are jolted from a deep sleep starving for air, later feeling tired as the day progresses. Spouses suffer as much as the patient since they retreat to other parts of the house to get a good night sleep. This condition causes many serious problems if left untreated including hypertension and pulmonary hypertension. Sleep apnea is prevalent in as many as 18 million Americans (one in every 15 Americans). Many with sleep apnea go undiagnosed until serious problems have already developed.
