Prostate Cancer Conventional Therapy And Natural Treatment

Prostate Cancer Conventional Therapy And Natural Treatment

Today prostate cancer is the third most common cause of death from cancer in men of all ages and is the most common cause of death from cancer in men over 75 years old.  Men who are younger than 40 are rarely ever diagnosed with prostate cancer but they should still be aware that it’s possible.  It’s estimated that there are approximately 234,460 men in the U.S. who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, and approximately 27,350 will eventually die from this disease.

Why you Should Move to a Retirement Community

Why you Should Move to a Retirement Community

After working nearly your entire life, it is finally time to kick back, relax and take advantage of the retired life.  So where do you go now?  Do you want to continue living in your current home?  Do you want to travel the world?  Have you considered moving into a retirement community?  There are many reasons a lot of seniors are moving into retirement communities rather than staying in the homes they lived in for years.  Why? Here are the top five reasons seniors move into a retirement community.

Back to School

Back to School

Children’s eye examinations are so important for their well-being.  Imagine living in a blur, but you did not realize you could see any better.  Children do not always know that their vision is not clear.  Parents sometimes may mistakenly think that their children’s eyes are functioning well.  A pediatrician may be able to check their children’s visual acuity every year with a simple vision test which determines which line they can see.  This is not always the case.  Some children may see well with each eye individually, but their eyes may not work well together.

Tell Someone a Medical Perspective

We have all seen the recent information regarding an important aspect of women’s health come to the forefront of the news.  Throughout time the incidence of cervical cancer has decreased.  However, the number of women experiencing abnormal Pap smear tests is increasing.  This rise indicates that an increasing number of women are at risk for cervical cancer.  Development of cervical cell abnormalities has been linked to the presence of the Human Papillomavirus or HPV.

Insomnia

Insomnia

Insomnia has different patterns: difficulty in falling asleep after retiring, early awakening, intermittent waking through the period of attempted sleep and even inability to sleep all night.

Patients Screened on Mammo Monday as Breast Imaging Center Sets Aside Special Day for Employees

The Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center set aside an entire day for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital employees, physicians, volunteers and their families for mammogram appointments.  The breast-imaging center had never before blocked a special day for hospital employees, physicians and volunteers, and had appointments scheduled from 7:45 a.m. through 7 p.m. that evening.  The physicians’ office staff was also invited.

Vision and Learning

Vision and Learning

A good education for your child means good schools, good teachers and good vision.  Your child’s eyes are constantly in use in the classroom and at play.  So when his or her vision is not functioning properly, learning and participation in recreational activities will suffer.

New Skin Rejuvenation Laser

New Skin Rejuvenation Laser

Dermacare of Valencia has added a new laser to its arsenal.  The Fraxel SR1500 is now available to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.  This is the same laser that Oprah Winfrey and actress Ellen Barkin have raved about.  The SR1500 is a fractional skin-resurfacing laser that completely spares the outer layer of skin, thus eliminating the down time previously associated with skin resurfacing.

Summer’s Over, but Not Its Effects on Your Skin

Summer’s Over, but Not Its Effects on Your Skin

Most people plan for skin care before the summer, but few plan for the after-effects such as sunburns.  The good news is that it is not too late to do something about sun damage that may have occurred this past summer.
Sun damage received over summer may already be showing itself or it will in the future.  The most common signs of sun damage are brown spots or irregular moles.  Wrinkles caused by sun damage will often show themselves later in life. If you focus on fixing wrinkles and brown spots then you are helping to fix sun damage.

When Should Dental Care Begin?

When Should Dental Care Begin?

Most pediatric dentists will agree that regular dental care should begin by one year of age, with a dental check-up at least twice each consecutive year for most children. Some children may need more frequent evaluations and care. In accordance with this recommendation, the following dental checklist for infants and toddlers has been provided by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry:

Tinnitus Rehabilitation

Tinnitus Rehabilitation

Most cases of chronic tinnitus cannot be cured.  Unfortunately, this fact prompts too many clinicians to tell patients that nothing can be done for tinnitus.  This statement and “you will just have to learn to live with it” is both erroneous and often counterproductive for those truly suffering.  Most patients can still obtain significant relief from the magnitude and presence of symptoms with specific therapeutic interventions.  Dr. Robert Folmer of the OHSU tinnitus Clinic in Portland said, “An effective tinnitus rehabilitation program can help patients to understand and gain control over their tinnitus, rather than allowing tinnitus to control them.”

Fall Allergies

Fall Allergies

Summer is slowly ending and with autumn approaching Mother Nature is starting to make some changes.  Cooler temperatures and changing atmospheric pressure results in wind and cloud formations and ultimately rainfall.  As plants begin their seasonal changes yellow and gold leaves fall to the ground, tree pollination subsides and the grass pollens gradually decrease.
