Family and friends gathered at the SCV Senior Center’s Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday, June 15 at Central Park. Guests had the opportunity to get up close and personal with emergency vehicles, construction equipment, movie vehicles and more.
A Sisterhood for Life
The 34th annual Miss Santa Clarita Valley Scholarship Pageant was just held at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons on Saturday, June 15. Forty-six beautiful young ladies participated for the opportunity to earn scholarships and be the next Miss Santa Clarita Valley.
Rockin’ Out with the Boys & Girls Club of SCV
On Saturday, June 1, guests were dressed to impress and enjoyed an afternoon of rockin’ out to support a great cause at the 42nd Annual Boys & Girls Club Auction. Complete with live and silent auctions, live entertainment, a gourmet dinner from Salt Creek Grille and buffet from Wolf Creek Restaurant and Brewing Company, proceeds from the event went to benefit the Boys & Girls Club, supporting nearly one-third of the critical funds needed for the entire year of operation of quality after-school and summer programs.
“Trinity Senior Theses”
Last week at Trinity, the senior class was challenged with a college-level assignment. Their Senior Thesis is a culminating event for their Trinity education. The project is a 20- to 40-page paper on a subject of their choice. The parameter is that it must be a subject about which reasonable Christians can disagree. They are to research, write, re-write, consult with an advisor, re-write some more, and finally, edit, cut and slash it down to seven or eight pages. Finally, they present it orally to the community mostly from memory.
Celebrating Survivorship and Hope at the Relay for Life
Thousands of people came to show their support for the American Cancer Society’s 15th annual Relay for Life of SCV. The overnight event began on Saturday, May 18 at Central Park in Saugus, beginning with the Survivor Lap. Teams walked the course, enjoying activities located around the track for the 24-hour event.

Honoring SCV’s Man and Woman of the Year
Congratulations to Steve Sturgeon and Elizabeth Hopp who were named the 2013 Santa Clarita Valley Man and Woman of the Year at the 47th Annual Premier Volunteer Recognition Event on Friday, May 3, at the Hyatt Valencia.
Western Fun at the Cowboy Festival
It was a warm and beautiful weekend as Santa Clarita’s Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio took center stage at the City of Santa Clarita’s 20th Annual Cowboy Festival, which took place on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday April 21.
A Race to the Finish
The Amgen Tour of California made its way to the City of Santa Clarita on Monday, May 14 for the Stage 3 Finish. The largest cycling event in America, the Amgen, presented by AEG featured the world’s top professional cycling teams that competed along 750 miles of scenic California Roadways. Cyclist Peter Sagan claimed first for Stage 3 of the tour.
Golf Classic Raises Over $358,000!
Golfers hit the greens at the 40th Annual Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo “Drive Safe” Golf Classic on Saturday, May 11 at the beautiful Valencia Country Club. The event raised over $358,000 to support emergency and trauma services in our valley.
An Afternoon of Food and Fun! 25th Annual Taste of the Town
It was a beautiful and cool afternoon at the Child & Family Center’s Taste of the Town on Sunday, May 6. Hundreds gathered at one of the Valley’s most popular events as guests sampled delicious food, wine and ale from some of the finest restaurants, caterers, wine and ale purveyors. Mark Le Vang & Friends entertained crowds throughout the day and special guests Lights Journey Tribute Band rocked out with some of the classics to end the afternoon.
SCV Realtors Host 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off
On Thursday, May 2, realtors from around the Santa Clarita Valley hosted the 1st Annual Chili Cook-Off to give back to our community. The event attracted 34 chili chefs and they all entered their secret recipes.
Taking Great Strides For a Cure!
Over 400 people gathered on Saturday, April 27 to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual Great Strides walk in Valencia.
Assistance League® 5K Run/Walk 2013
This year’s Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk was another successful fundraiser for Assistance League Santa Clarita! Runners and walkers turned out under overcast skies, Sunday May 5 for the annual 5K Run/Walk to benefit their signature philanthropic program, Operation School Bell. A big thank you to all the sponsors and supporters of the local Chapter.
Mixing it Up at Nola Aronson’s Advanced Audiology
Nola Aronson’s Advanced Audiology hosted the monthly SCV Chamber Mixer on Wednesday, March 20. Friends and members enjoyed the sounds of Chairman of The Chord, a barber shop quartet, George’s Gourmet BBQ served delicious food with all the fixin’s, Bake You Happy supplied mouth watering cupcakes and Planet Yogurt had an array of delicious yogurts to sample.
Trinity Students Travel to Italy for Senior Trip
The Trinity Classical Academy class of 2013 capped their senior year with a glorious eight day trip to Florence, Italy. After studying classical literature, art, architecture and language during their time at Trinity, this was an incredible opportunity to actually experience the splendor of the birthplace of the renaissance.
15th Annual Elks Charity Roast a Great Success!
For the 15th time, the Roast was a great success and raised funds for health care for SCV residents provided by Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers. March 23 was the big night at the Elks Lodge in Canyon Country.
With former city manager Ken Pulskamp as the Roastee, the Roasters felt they had a lot of good material to work with.
A Toast and a WiSH Success!
It was an evening of fun on Saturday, April 13, as guests gathered in the Old Town Newhall Library to taste wines, foods prepared by the best local chefs and peruse through silent auction items at the A Toast and a WiSH: A Benefit for the Future Leaders of Santa Clarita.
