With Your Family in Mind
Beauties of the Buy-Sell
Thomas, Richard and Harold (the proverbial “Tom, Dick and Harry” in corporate executives’ clothing) are the sole officers, directors and stockholders of a small but successful service-oriented corporation. During the company’s four years of existence, business has grown steadily. The three men devote their full time to the business and are paid equal annual salaries. When the company was formed, they each invested $100,000, and each owns one-third of the corporate stock. Thomas is married, Richard is a widower with minor children and Harold is engaged to be married.
Children are our Most Precious Resource
When the lives of children change because their families’ lives take a turn, Inner Circle is there to provide safe and secure homes. We recruit and successfully train foster/adoptive families. Before things unravel even further, children of all ages can be assured a home environment where their welfare and well-being is the first priority. Inner Circle Foster and Adoption certifies families who are prepared to handle a variety of situations, have children enrolled in school, offer an enriched environment with social activities, and provide nurturance and love.
Retired? You Might Be Able to Save on Insurance
Once you are retired, your need for insurance changes. It is a good idea to look at your coverage options and figure out what you need (and don’t need) and where you might be able to achieve some savings.
Life Insurance. If your spouse or other dependents won’t lose any income when you die, life insurance may be unnecessary and your premiums may be better spent elsewhere. If you do choose to drop a policy - whether term or whole life - you might be able to sell the policy and be paid more than its cash surrender value. If you decide to keep your policy, you might be able to exchange it for a new policy with lower premiums or a higher death benefit due to changes in actuarial tables.
Improving Employee Safety
Accidents in the workplace result in higher workers’ compensation and insurance costs, lost workdays, and lower employee morale. Thus, it makes good sense for employers to provide safety education for their employees to reduce the likelihood of injuries.
All employers should develop a plan for medical emergencies. They need to anticipate what could happen, have a plan for what to do if something does occur, and train their employees so they will respond appropriately during an emergency.
“Yeah, But I Really Didn’t Get Hurt.” The Mantra Behind Lifelong Degeneration
Nearly every day I speak to a new patient who is complaining of chronic health concerns. Maybe it’s constipation, headaches, acid reflux, leg pain or numb fingers. I begin by questioning the patient about old injuries, car wrecks, falls, sports… all the usual events in life that cause physical stress on the body. Almost universally people tell me that some, if not all of these apply, but continue by saying, “Yeah, but I really didn’t get hurt.”
Alzheimer’s: The Rising Epidemic
Activities and Communication Tips for a Better Quality of Life
Every 70 seconds, someone in the US develops Alzheimer’s, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Dependable Senior Assistants LLC is helping raise awareness of the enormous impact of this increasing epidemic. Structured activities that involve and interest the person with Alzheimer’s will help minimize the disturbing behaviors associated with the disease, such as:
• Motor: Take a walk, do chair exercises, stretch, or even do a dance using just the hands – the important thing is to encourage some sort of movement.
Adrenal Stress
You may be aware of the two little glands situated above the kidneys called the adrenal glands. They are responsible for various hormones being delivered to the body. When the adrenal glands become overworked they can become exhausted. This causes complications to the well-being of our health. There are various different symptoms that come with adrenal stress. Some of those symptoms are depression, lack of energy, and a reduced sex drive.
Depression is one of the common symptoms of adrenal stress. When the adrenal glands stop performing properly we can become depressed. Depression can be treated in many several ways. But if you are coping with adrenal stress, it is necessary to fortify your adrenal glands. This can be done by gaining control of the stress in your life with suitable exercise, suitable diet, and good exercise.
Parents Must Be Parents, Not Pals
Joanne and Tony throw the best keg parties in town. The beer flows and a designated teen collects car keys at the door. Teens mill around, shouting over the pounding music, hugging and “high-fiving” Joanne and Tony. They are so popular; they could have been voted Prom King and Queen.
What’s wrong with this picture? Joanne and Tony graduated high school 25 years ago, and this is their son’s party and the family is planning a few more beer bashes during the summer.
Some parents see drinking as a sign of adulthood. There is a belief that once someone has graduated, they are an adult. But they’re still under 21—and drinking is illegal. Some parents seek the approval of their teens, and want to be heroes in the teen arena. I am astounded that they think that as long as they are serving the alcohol, they can control their kids and other kids’ actions.
May Flowers!
After working in the same company for decades and expecting to work for many more years, mom inherited a supervisor who was unkind, exploitive, and just plain mean. Reluctantly, and with a heavy heart, she escaped this tyranny by retiring in 1991. Soon thereafter, the company announced a change to retiree benefits that would discontinue free lifetime medical coverage for anyone retiring after 1991. Hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical benefits for my parents is a silver lining behind the intolerable situation at work that hastened her choice to retire.
How to Properly Prepare for Pregnancy
Almost every woman is blessed with the capacity to bear a child at least once in her lifetime. It is considered to be one of the greatest gifts that a woman can give her husband. Bearing a child would make the couple more closer together, and at this certain point in their lives they can actually call themselves a family. Upon learning that the woman is pregnant, most couples enthusiastically start planning for her pregnancy and eventual childbirth.
Break the Cycle
Sometimes awful things happen in our lives, and we may feel stuck. When those horrible things happen, you may have several choices. We may continue to suffer, feeling there is no hope, believing that life is just a “Valley of Tears.”
Alternatively, you may get a little better, function relatively free of conflict and then again back to the old rut, feeling frustrated, hopeless, helpless… then get a little better and the cycle begins all over again.
Maybe It’s Not What You Think
At the ripe old age of two, my son became a huge fan of olives. He tasted an olive one day, fell in love, and never looked back. Anything that even remotely appears to be compatible with olives must contain them. Whether it is a salad, a slice of pizza, a taco, or some type of pasta, if it seems like it can handle an olive, then by all means bring on the olives. He loves olives so much that eating them directly out of the jar has become one of his favorite pastimes.
Creative Ways to Show Love for Mom and Grandma!
Our mothers and grandmothers have such a profound influence on our lives, and Mother’s Day is the perfect time to show them how much we love them!
When you are choosing the right gift, the first thing you want to do is consider your mom or grandmother’s personality and interests. What kind of activities is she involved in regularly? How does she like to spend her spare time? Does she have any physical limitations?
Dreams are Good to Think With
“Dreams are impartial, spontaneous products of the unconscious psyche, outside the control of will. They are pure nature; they show us the unvarnished, natural truth….” – Carl Jung
When asked why so many indigenous cultures have animals in their creation myths, anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss famously replied that “animals are good to think with.” And because, as Jung says, dreams are “pure nature” and “they show us the unvarnished, natural truth,” I contend that dreams are likewise, “good to think with.”
Can You Sell Your House in the Middle of a Dissolution Proceeding?
When you file for Dissolution, certain restraining orders automatically go into effect. These are commonly referred to as standard family law restraining orders. These restraining orders can be found on the back of the Summons. One in particular, states neither party is to dispose of any real property without written consent of the other party or an order of the court.
The Timing of a Divorce
To divorce or not to divorce, that is the question. So what’s the answer? When a client comes to my office for a divorce consultation, one of the first issues to be considered is whether the marriage can be saved. For me, both parties should be willing to go for marriage counseling. They must also be willing to consider how their own behavior has contributed to the failed marriage. If they want to exclusively blame their spouse and feel that they are unwilling to change, the prospects of saving the marriage are not very great.

Imagine you bought a house and, a year and a half later, you discovered bundles of cash that had been hidden away by the deceased former owner. Who would he entitled to the money — you or the former owner’s estate? Confronted with just such a case, an Oregon Appeals Court determined that the new owner can keep the windfall.
