The Art of Beauty and Wellness

January brings a lot of “new” for people — New Year, New Year’s Resolutions and new Rituals.  The word “Ritual” has a few definitions, but I felt the following truly defined what Renee Kaehny and her staff live by at the Salon; “a series of actions or type of behavior regularly and invariably followed by someone.”  And when I say Renee and her staff live by “Rituals” at the salon I mean you can expect excellence, professionalism and caring.   In order to make sure every person working at Rituals truly lives by the beliefs they follow, Renee handpicks them herself.  Renee says, “We share Aveda’s mission, ‘To care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society.  …We strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty but around the world.’

Rituals Colour Salon is an Aveda Salon.  And what does that mean you may ask?  Well Aveda™, The Art and Science of Pure Flower and Plant Essences™, was founded in 1978 with the goal of providing beauty industry professionals with high performance, botanically based products that would be better for service providers and their guests, as well as for the planet.  Aveda manufactures professional plant-based hair care, skin care, makeup, Pure-Fume™ and lifestyle products.  What that means is that it’s better for the environment and it’s better for you.  You will never leave Rituals with a light-headed feeling from the chemical process — you will leave feeling light on your feet and in the clouds from how great you look!

Our lucky January makeover winner was Jamie Eaton.  Jamie was one of the many women who applied for the December makeover.  We were just so overwhelmed by the response we had to keep them for January.  Jamie wrote to the Magazine and said: “Who isn’t ready for a new look?  Honestly, I’m most excited about the prospect of having groomed eyebrows where I currently have hedgerows.  I’ve never had them professionally shaped and don’t feel that I’m qualified to do more than minimal upkeep myself (which is sporadically done at best).  And recently I gave birth to our second child and our oldest is 15.  Every “new” mom needs quick and easy to manage hair and makeup since extra time is at a premium.”

When Renee picked Jamie she had the perfect woman for the job in mind.  Liz Greene is a mother as well and immediately was at ease with Jamie.  I sat by quietly, well as quiet as I could, while Liz and Renee spoke to Jamie for the consultation.  Liz asked great questions like, “What type of clothes do you wear,” and “What colors are mainly in your wardrobe?”  Another great question to ask is, “Does the client wear their glasses all the time?” Glasses can alter the shape of your face and play a key role in a haircut.  Always make sure to tell your stylist if you wear contacts part time or for fun nights out.  That way they can customize your style to accommodate both looks.  After the consultation I left the ladies to their day of beauty and would return for the finale later on.

Drum roll ladies… and the after, WOW!  Jamie’s inner glow had been lit again and the warmth added to her color just exuded through her skin!  With the final touch of makeup by Heather Nelson, Jamie was ready to say hello to the world again.  Heather is an amazing artist and she truly brings out the inner beauty in every woman’s face she touches.  Just a final bit of gloss and we were ready for the after photo.

All and all, it was a wonderful day of beauty and celebration.  Rituals Colour Salon truly celebrates women and everything that makes a woman, woman.  Make Rituals a new “Ritual” for you and do something for yourself in the Yew Year.
