Consignment to the Rescue
Twelve years ago I started a consignment sale so I could save money on an Exersaucer for my infant son. Little did I know that the consignment sale would not only save me thousands of dollars but assist with my kid’s current “obsession”. He’s now 14 years old – looking back – I’ve had so much fun finding his favorite things at the sale.
Year one – Yellow shirts. He wanted to be Greg Wiggle every day of the week. Not a problem – there are thousands of clothes at the sale!
Year two – Toy Story’s Woody. No problem – I found costumes and plenty of Woody toys at the sale!
Year three – Superheroes. Batman, Superman, Spiderman, you name it – we couldn’t have enough figures. Then, they all had to be the same size! An eight-inch figure can’t play with a 12-inch figure! No problem – I got him both sizes!
Year four – Jeans. No khakis, no sweats, no track pants, just jeans. No problem – I sold all the non-jeans and stocked up on jeans this year!
Year five – Legos. The more, the better. I found brand new sets plus big bags with tons of pieces so he could be creative all day long.
Year six – Bey Blades. Yes, those tiny metal circles that bounce around in a plastic tray kept him fascinated for hours. Hey – whatever works! He had to have one of every kind they made – no problem – found it!
Year seven – “Slicky shorts” – he won’t go out of the house in anything but basketball shorts – a.k.a “slicky shorts. No problem – slicky shorts it is!
Year eight – Dodgers Baseball. Anything with the Dodgers – clothes, bags, shoes in Dodger colors, bobble heads, etc.
Year nine – Any Baseball. Dodgers are still key but we’ve expanded the obsession to include all baseball teams – baseball cards, bobbleheads or figures, video games, hats, books, etc.
Year 10 –Elite socks – you know, those colorful high socks… the ones that are $18 in the store! No problem – socks galore at the sale.
Year 11 – Dri-fit shirts. Preferably in bright neon colors. Baseball themed – even better.
Year 12 – Shoes, shoes, shoes. Not only are his feet growing like weeds, his stinky shoes need to be replaced every other month or so. His feet are now a men’s size 11. Believe it or not, I find him shoes every sale!
As you can see, consignment sales are not just for babies. You can find everything you need for your growing kids. And at these prices … you can indulge the newest obsession.
The fall SCV Kids Consignment Sale is coming in September where you can fulfill your child’s every wish! Check the website at www.SCVkidsconsignment.com for details!
