Haircuts Are Not One Size Fits All
When it comes to getting the perfect cut, there is no magic template. Accidents and disasters happen when a hair stylist cuts hair in cookie cutter fashion not taking any consideration into the guest’s unique and individual hair composition. Whether hair is thick or thin, straight or curly, etc., each individual’s hair anatomy needs to be taken into consideration in its natural state before water or shears touch the hair.
Every single person has a specific amount of hair density (thickness) that can vary throughout the head. Along with density, everyone has their own specific texture which can also vary from curly to straight on the same head. Hair line, cowlicks and head shape are also factors that need to be assessed and taken into consideration when designing the perfectly tailored haircut.
Having photos to show the stylist what you like and photos of what you do not like are very helpful. Pictures often translate better than words. With that being said, try to pick a hair inspiration photo with someone who has a similar hair texture, pattern, etc. to yourself. If the model in the photo has a completely different hair than yourself, then even with the exact same cut the results will be different.
Be realistic about your lifestyle and whether you need to have your hair long enough to be pulled back or how much time you have in the morning to spend on styling your hair. Figure out if you want a low maintenance cut that can work with your natural texture, or if you will do whatever it takes to get your hair to look as close to your inspiration photo as possible whether it be curlers or flat iron. Whatever your needs may be, I’d love to see you and give you the look you want.
