Were You Fooled by the “What the Health” Documentary too?
In this day and age with so much conflicting information and differences of opinion, it’s hard to know what sources you can trust. To make matters worse we have organizations with an agenda intentionally trying to mislead people. Take the new sensational documentary on Netflix called What The Health for example. This popular documentary has taken the nation by storm. Unfortunately, What The Health is filled with misinformation that is misleading hundreds of thousands of Americans. I applaud any effort that encourages people to lead healthier lives but intentionally misleading people to further an agenda is morally wrong and unethical. In the case of What The Health, sadly, that is exactly what is happening. As a health professional, I feel compelled to set the record straight. The documentary is fraught with false information and I could go on for days but I will zero in on a few key issues.
The fundamental message in What The Health is that consuming animal products is seriously detrimental to your health. So, do they back these claims up with valid proof? Not in the slightest. Although it may seem like the film is supported by numerous healthcare professionals and backed by scientific data that is certainly not the case when we dig a little deeper. The scientific research they use is taken out of context and or cherry picked. In some cases, it’s even manipulated to support their false claims. I will touch on a few examples where this is the case.
The film dishonestly downplays sugar’s role in causing health issues in American while shifting the bulk of the blame on animal proteins. The fact is a great deal of research has linked consuming too much processed sugar to diabetes and heart disease. Make no mistake about it, contrary to what the film would have you believe, too much processed sugar is indeed detrimental to your health.
One of the most ridiculous yet hilarious claims made in this film is that eggs are just as bad for you as cigarettes. This is an absurd and exaggerated assertion that is based on outdated information. Recently, studies have begun to reveal that cholesterol found in animal proteins isn’t nearly as bad for you as we once believed. The fact is eggs are packed with key nutrients and when eaten in moderation they are indeed healthy for you.
This pro vegan/vegetarian film reveals its true agenda when it makes claims that suggest that eating animal products is one of the primary causes of health issues in America. The assertion that eating animal products is unhealthy is flat out false. Although a vegan diet can be very healthy it certainly isn’t the only healthy way to eat. After all humans are omnivorous. We evolved to eat animal proteins so unfortunately animals dying is a part of the circle of life. So, if we are biologically classified as omnivores then that begs the questions why would eating animal be seriously detrimental to our health?
I’ve attempted to highlight a few key examples of mis-infomration in the film. I strongly encourage to do some objective research of your own on the matter. If you are interested in learning more about the issue then I encourage you to visit my website to read the extended version of this article on my blog. I dive a little deeper into the issue and support my arguments with ample evidence.
