Feeling Down? Seven Tips to Lift Your Spirits!

by | Apr 23, 2018 | Health & Fitness

Let’s face it, we all have bad days. Every now and again we all feel sad, down or just down right drained. A low mood can be caused by anything from something serious as a death of a loved one to something as simple as a bad day at work and the list goes on. As a fellow human being and as Personal Development Coach I can say with full confidence that these seven tips will help lift your spirits and brighten your day! Give these a try and feel your mood improve almost immediately!
1. Move Your Body! Physical activities such as lifting weights, hiking, walking and yoga all help release feel-good chemicals such as endorphins and dopamine! Doing some active stretching and or taking a brisk walk is always great for a quick mood change!
2. Get Some Sun! One of the quickest mood lifters is good old-fashioned sunshine. Getting out to enjoy a little sunshine will increase your levels of vitamin D and instantly boost your mood. Research has shown that people who get more light exposure have less depression and increased alertness and productivity.
3. Listen to Your Favorite Music! Studies have shown that listening to your favorite music will instantly lift your spirits and improve your mood. So, find your favorite song or music artist and turn it up!
4. Pray and or meditate! Whether you are religious, spiritual or otherwise prayer and meditation can be beneficial. Research has shown that regular mindfulness exercises can change brain structure to promote a sense of well-being. In addition, mediation and prayer helps you live in the here and now. Being fully present in the moment is always a powerful mood booster!
5. Laugh, laugh and laugh some more! A good laugh can instantly improve your mood, as well as decrease stress hormones. If you’re feeling stressed or down and out do something that will make you laugh. Watch a funny movie or video or listen to a funny podcast. Better yet hang out with the funniest people you know!
6. Create positivity (even if you don’t feel like it)! Creating positivity is one of the fastest ways to improve your mood. Try sending a friend a text letting them know how much you love them and how awesome they are. Why not compliment a complete stranger? Post a funny joke on Facebook. Emit positivity and watch the magic happen!
7. Commit a random act of kindness! Doing something kind for someone else is always a great way to lift their spirits as well your own. Give someone an unexpected hug. Buy a stranger coffee. Pick up litter and trash if need be. Doing good for others always feels good!
