The French Paraffin Facial Mask
Paraffin wax re-hydrates the skin with gentle and deep-warming melted wax. The heat of the paraffin induces perspiration and this aids in deep moisturization of the stratum corneum (the uppermost layer of the epidermis). The paraffin heat also aids in relaxing tense muscles and loosening stiff joints.
The paraffin mask treatment has been a favorite of estheticians around the world for many years. Spectacular results can be seen immediately in conjunction with a facial and especially with deep-pore cleansing and exfoliation treatments. It is a treatment that can be given without the use of machines so is good for anyone to whom electricity may be contraindicated.
The treatment is most beneficial to skin that is dehydrated, dry or aging. It is not recommended for acne skin conditions but it may be used on oily skin. Another benefit of the warm wax is that it insures deep penetration of products. The warmth of the mask relaxes the pores, allows the product to penetrate and forms a vacuum, thus stimulating perspiration in the skin. The moisture cannot escape and is forced back into the epidermis. When the treatment is completed, the skin will appear moist and of good color, and the appearance of superficial lines will be diminished.
Warm, unscented paraffin is applied over a layer of gauze that has been placed over the client’s skin. It is brushed on with a regular facial brush in several layers until the technician has determined that a vacuum has been created. The eyes are protected with damp eye pads and the client can choose to have the mouth area added to the mask. Your esthetician will determine which products should go under the gauze based upon the needs of your skin. The mask remains on the face for 20 minutes and then is removed by peeling off.
This is a very relaxing addition to almost any facial treatment and is recommended for all women and men who are clean shaven.
