Variation is Key
If you’ve been actively working out yet struggling to see results then keep reading! We humans get comfortable in our routines and oftentimes avoid change. When it comes to exercise the last thing you want to do is stick with the same routine for long durations. I see this too often in the fitness industry. I had a client a few years back that had only been doing Yoga and Pilates for years. Initially she saw great results but eventually she plateaued and didn’t see much improvement as far as how her body looked. When she started with us I suggested she come to our gym 2 to 3 days a week and keep doing Yoga and Pilates 2 to 3 times a week. She followed my advice and within 3 months saw a total transformation. The first few weeks her muscles were sore because she was doing new exercises and lifting weights. In fact, she had not lifted weights in over a decade because a former Yoga instructor told her the weight training was bad for her. Talk about bad advice. Adding the weights into her routine was exactly what she needed to finally lose that extra weight and build and shape her muscles.
You may be wondering why variation increases results. The S.A.I.D. Principle is an acronym that stands for Specific Adaptation to Imposed Demand (S.A.I.D.). In a nutshell, when the body is placed under certain forms of new stress, it starts to make adaptations that will allow it to get better at withstanding that specific form of stress in the future. Basically by doing exercises that you are not used to doing you are forcing your body to constantly adapt which increases overall results. That is why you are typically sore when you start a new exercise routine. If you’re actively exercising but not seeing the results you want then I highly suggest adding something new to your routine! Always remember that variation in your fitness routine is key to getting results!
