SCV Education Foundation
In 2019, when we launched Page Turners, 49 percent of students receiving books reported having had 10 books of their own or less in their home–including the books they received from the Page Turners Program. That means at least 20 percent of their books were gifted to them through this program.
In fact, only a few weeks after the program had taken place in one of our junior high schools, a student who received a pair of books ecstatically reported back to his teacher. He expressed his excitement in having the opportunity to participate in the school’s upcoming book swap event because he finally had a book of his own that he could swap for another! Without the Page Turners program, he would have been excluded from participating in an event meant to promote literacy.
Helping students start their own library with age-appropriate books encourages a literacy environment at home and motivates them to read and improve their literacy skills. Supporting literacy in our schools can be as simple as the price of two caramel Frappuccino’s. Won’t you help support them today?
The SCV Education Foundation will be matching all donations made for the continuation of this campaign in order to achieve our $7,000 goal. $10 equals a book in one student’s personal library. For details and to make a donation, visit www.scveducationfoundation.org.
