Selina Thomas… A Calling To Serve
Selina Thomas watched like most engaged citizens the many changes socially and politically that took place in our country and community in 2020. With the landmark passing of Juneteenth as a federal holiday she realized the call to serve was becoming more clear.
“You cannot stand idly by and watch moments in history become some thing for others to shape and create. I watched and learned from my father, Dr. Gene Thomas, a trailblazer in the field of education as the 1st African-American Principal and Superintendent in his school district be a part of the solution in his generation.”
“I have an opportunity to serve in my community in so many ways. To be a participant in the positive momentum we can all see happening locally and nationally.”
As a longtime resident, successful business owner, homeowner, single mother and community volunteer Selina felt there was no better month than June, the month that honors fathers and Juneteenth to announce her intention to again be a candidate for Santa Clarita City Council in 2022.
“When Juneteenth was signed by our current administration I could hear my dads voice in my head saying well daughter it’s your turn now. It had become clear in so many ways that I am the next generation from my father, for my three daughters. I want to leave a legacy that they can be proud of. Even more so, in their generation my girls can make representation of diversity a norm.”
