Thoughts on Gratitude…
Here at Survival of the Fittest we like to work on our personal development just as much as our fitness and nutrition! In an effort to take a balanced approach to overall improvement we pick one theme a week to focus on. We recently focused on having an “Attitude of Gratitude” and I thought this would be a wonderful topic to discuss in this month’s editorial. We can all use an attitude adjustment every now and again right?
I thoroughly believe that actively choosing a grateful attitude is one of the keys to achieving real success and lasting happiness; not to mention abundant health. To be clear, I am not talking new age mumbo jumbo here. I am simply talking about a deliberate choice to find the positives in life. A consistent counting of your blessings if you will. In any given day there are endless “positives” and “negatives” that we can focus on. It goes without saying that you need to identify crucial events and issues so you can deal with them strategically. You won’t achieve much of anything positive with your heads in the clouds.
Focusing on negatives is a part of human nature. We are biologically programmed to identify and zone in on real and or potential problems. From a baseline survival mode this serves a very useful purpose but left unchecked this tendency to focus on the negative can cause serious issues with your health and happiness. The trick is to strike a balance between your natural instincts and your higher self.
I challenge you to take a moment several times throughout the day to acknowledge the positives. Maybe you can try replacing your ungrateful thoughts with a grateful one. Identify when things go right and work in your favor. Make a list of the things that you are most grateful for and meditate on them throughout the day. Do what works best for you but the idea is to increase the positive/ grateful thoughts and to decrease negative/ ungrateful thoughts as much as possible! Try this out and what the magic happen! I am happy to answer any questions that you may have about health and fitness and I appreciate your feedback. As always please feel free to email me to let me know how this “Attitude of Gratitude” project worked for you!
