Be in Awe of the Simple Things
We all know that life can be hectic. To ease our challenges and add joy to our daily routine we carve out time to enjoy the simple things in life. It’s up to us. Put aside your gadgets and tune in to be in the moment; You’ll be open to small wonders that bring big joys.
We almost lost the sense of feeling in awe, especially from simple pleasures as we tend to take a lot for granted. Living with gratitude and amazement changes our perspective on things and may change our reality. We can train ourselves to intentionally look for simple joys.
Slowing down is the first step to enjoying the many joys that are all around us. Some things that don’t cost much are priceless: Giving and getting a loving hug, smiling, or complimenting someone can make their day. Doing a good deed or paying an act of kindness forward makes us feel better. I savor simple pleasures like spending time alone, taking a long hot bath/shower, sinking into reading a good book, smelling the freshly cut flowers on my kitchen table, stirring my homemade soup, watching snowflakes fall, drinking from my favorite mug, doing my hobbies, going on a nature walk, seeing my garden bloom, connecting right away with new a friend, or with an old friend, listening or dancing to my favorite music. Make your own list.
Scientists discovered that being in awe has positive physical and emotional benefits. It relieves anxiety and depression. Our bodies produce inflammation-fighting substances. Feeling in awe is calming and grounding, yet it awakens us to be more curious and playful. Living with that sense, we see the beauty and wonders in everyday life, from hearing the thunderous sound of mighty waterfalls to enjoying the sound of baby giggles. When you feel awe-inspired, every sunrise and every sunset can take your breath away, and life is truly awesome.
A wise person once said, “The happiest people don’t have the best in everything; they just make the best of everything.” Cherish each moment as if it’s your last one.
