Finding Joy
In the Jewish calendar, we have just entered the joyful month of Adar, a time when we are encouraged to increase our happiness. Our sages teach that when this month begins, joy rises with it. I have always loved that idea — that joy is not random, but something we intentionally welcome and grow.
Of course, life is never without its ups and downs. There are dry seasons, challenging moments, and days when it would be easy to slip into pessimism. We are human, and emotions can shift quickly. Yet I have learned that optimism is something we must protect.
On my personal journey, it helps to look at the bigger picture. I remind myself that this is my life — my unique path. I try not to compare my story with someone else’s achievements or successes. Their blessings come in their time; mine unfold in the right time for me. When negative thoughts try to sneak in, I gently block them. I stay consistent with prayer, hope, and faith. Choosing happiness is a daily decision. I surround myself with positive, like-minded people who lift my spirit. I keep busy expressing myself creatively — writing, teaching, and making art. I find joy in the small, everyday blessings: a warm conversation, a shared smile, a quiet moment of gratitude. When I open my heart and share my feelings, I often learn from others’ experiences as well. Maintaining a sense of wonder, even for the smallest miracles, keeps life vibrant.
This year, I feel an especially deep sense of happiness. Our family was blessed with a beautiful miracle: I have become a grandmother. It is a life-changing blessing that fills us with extraordinary joy. Dreams truly do come true when we hold on to hope and practice patience.
There is no separate road to happiness — happiness itself is the way. When we count our blessings and cherish the little things, joy naturally grows. May you find your own path to lasting happiness.
