Culminating a year-long endeavor that demonstrates how youth can connect to each other, their schools, and their community, elementary school students and community members of the Santa Clarita Valley come together to celebrate a broad, innovative partnership base of individuals and organizations dedicated to publicizing and supporting the need for sustained arts programming for each and every student.  

Have you ever walked out the door and reached in your purse or pocket and realized your phone is missing?  Your phone, the one tangible object connecting you to every living person around you, has now given you an undeniable feeling of panic.  No contacts, no email, no Facebook, no games to keep you occupied when you’re bored, no texts. 

Most of you know Ramen as those packages of noodles that come with little powder packets and sells for 99 cents (or less) at the supermarket.  What you may or may not know is that traditional Japanese Ramen doesn’t come in little packets, it’s made using many different ingredients and slow cooked to produce a savory broth and served with noodles and a variety of toppings. 

Have any of you tried a long distance relationship?  Of course I had to try it, and this is my story.
A little while ago, a good friend of mine told me she had someone who would be perfect for me.  There was just one little problem; she lived in Las Vegas.  Now I am not big on a long distance relationship, but I told my friend that maybe we could meet next time I go there. 

What student wouldn’t enjoy cold treats for an entire year, especially if they’re free?  Well, one local quick service restaurant is counting on that.
For the second year in a row, Wendy’s of Santa Clarita is launching the Frosty Key Tag program to support local schools in the Hart District.  Wendy’s is inviting local residents to purchase key tags at a local Wendy’s restaurant for a dollar.  The dollar is donated to the Hart district school that the purchaser chooses, and the key tag entitles the holder to a free Junior Frosty with any purchase on every visit to Wendy’s, until May 31, 2013—that could be as many as 400 Frosties for just one dollar!  

On June 9, we will be celebrating our first anniversary at Pho Sure.  As a small business, we are genuinely grateful to all our customers, residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, Jim Walker of The Signal for his visit to our mom and pop restaurant and our staff. 

When you were growing up, she put her needs aside to be sure you had everything you needed.  She dried your tears when you were sad.  She clapped the loudest from the back of the auditorium when you performed in school events.  Wouldn’t you like to be sure she knows how much you appreciate her on her special day?

To the delight of aspiring engineers and their grown-ups throughout Southern California, classic storybook friend Thomas the Tank Engine in chugging back into Fillmore, April 20, 21, 22 and April 27, 28 and 29.  This family event offers fans the unique opportunity to take a ride with Thomas the Tank™ and participate in all the day’s festivities.

Sat., June 2, 7:30 a.m. – BMCF/JCI Fight It! 10K/5K/1K.  The members of JCI Santa Clarita Valley are proud to present the 11th annual Fight It! 5K Race including a 10K & 1K benefiting the Brenda Mehling Cancer Fund.  Walkers and runners of all ages are welcome to participate. 

Gardening can be such a personal journey.  It’s not just about planting a seed and watching it grow.  It is a process in which you tend and nurture and then stand back and watch in amazement.  It can be extremely therapeutic interacting with the plants and the earth, creating your own comforting environment without explanation or apology. 

Hello comedy fans!  Thanks for making this year one of our best ever.  We have a lot going on this month, starting with April 6 and April 7, when we have Pete George.  Pete was mistakenly put into class for the learning disabled when he was a child, and has made a career out of talking about it as an adult.  He combines comedy with music, and does world-class music parodies as he takes on different characters in his act.  Also on the bill is Marc Ryan, a Santa Clarita resident who has his own cable television show and has performed on Comedy Central.  Marc is a national headliner and is eager to perform to his hometown fans.

Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley is sponsoring an event to raise awareness about domestic violence.  Nearly three out of four (74 percent) Americans personally know someone who is or has been a victim of domestic violence.  And 30 percent of Americans say they know a woman who has been physically abused by her husband or boyfriend in the past year.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to date a millionaire?  Well I thought about it, and one day it actually happened.  I was browsing on a dating site, when this one lady caught my eye.  She looked nice in her photo, so I read her profile, which was very interesting.  So I decided to email her, and say hello. 

The saying is “life as we know it,” not “life as others know it.”  I began searching for answers as to why we are such comparative beings in the game of life.  We look at our lives and tend to compare our successes and failures to others.  We match situations to see if we are ahead of the game or trailing in the back at a slower pace. 

A must see!  This pre-Broadway musical – Wartime Romance, A Time to Remember - will  be presented at Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center on Saturday, April 28.  Two performances of this acclaimed patriotic production about a World War II (WWII) love story will be the last productions for non-profit beneficiaries as the musical will begin touring in July 2012.

It was brought to our attention that there has been a major lack of live music here in the Santa Clarita valley – more specifically soul, blues and jazz.  Classic rock isn’t too hard to come by, but for our unique atmosphere, we decided to zero in on the rhythm and blues!  So, with the help of Robert Altschuler from Command Recording Studios; providing back-up instruments, equipment and his superior mixing abilities, we are able to offer a truly professional performance. 

Step back to a simpler time in the beautiful agriculture-rich Heritage Valley.  The small communities of Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru are located in east Ventura County.  The main artery through the valley is scenic Highway 126, linking Interstate 5 in Santa Clarita and Highway 101 in Ventura.  Rolling hills, century-old avocado and citrus orchards and early 20th century historic downtowns are the defining features of the Heritage Valley.
