A producer on two successful nighttime network television shows is running for public office in Santa Clarita.  
Laurie Ender, Chairman of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission has announced that she will run for a seat on the Santa Clarita City Council in April 2008. 

On the cover of the Magazine is the photo of Nathan Crookston, a cancer survivor and participant in the Santa Clarita Valley’s Relay For Life and Luminaria ceremony.

If you spot glimmers of light while passing by Santa Clarita’s Central Park the first week-end in June, know that those lights carry a rather special significance. 

It was really like any other morning for Santa Clarita Detective Jeffrey Jackson until he heard the call from the local dispatcher describing the suspects in a recent bank robbery at the Washington Mutual in Stevenson Ranch.  

It helped such notables as Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Jennifer Lopez and Michael Jordan who were members elsewhere, but more importantly, it’s helped millions of children and currently serves 3500 local kids at three area clubhouses.  The organization referred to here is the Boys & Girls Club.

Everywhere he drives in Santa Clarita, Robert Newman can see something he has touched in one way or another when it comes to developing the City.  That’s because since 1991 (except during a three-year hiatis when he worked in Calabasas), the Santa Clarita resident has seen to it as the Director of Public Works that whenever there is a project funded by actions set into motion by the City Council, he implements it with style.

We are so very proud of all of the High School students in the Santa Clarita Valley who have worked to be their personal best and make their parents, teachers and community proud.  Pat Willett, the Community Liaison Officer for the William S. Hart Union High School District solicited nominations from teachers for this graduation column recognizing several exemplary students.  We realize there are many others who deserve recognition and commend and congratulate them as well for their dedication.  Meet this year’s outstanding Santa Clarita graduates in our first annual tribute honoring students nominated by their teachers.  Go forward graduates into the world with the same enthusiasm you’ve exhibited in high school and you’re bound to make a difference in this world.

A smile swept over Shelley Hann’s face as she inducted seven members of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild to their new positions on the group’s board during a recent elegant installation ceremony and dinner at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.

When we are young, Disney movies teach us that a hero is a fictional character who rescues the damsel in distress.  When we are older, life teaches us that a real hero could be your neighbor, your classmate, your son or your daughter—an average person faced with personal obstacles. 

Mayor Pro Tem Bob Kellar, with an eye on proactively serving the best interests of the people of Santa Clarita, is defending is seat on the City Council and running for re-election.  His supporters recently rallied for him at a lunchtime fundraiser at Spirit Properties, owned by Larry Rasmussen.

The City of Santa Clarita’s Aquatic Center recently hosted the 2007 Southern Pacific Master Association Short Course Yards Finals Swim Meet, featuring the Santa Clarita Masters Swim Club (SCMC) and during it the team swam to their most successful finish earning them a number three overall ranking with a score of 760.

The volunteers at the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station saved the City more than $650,000 last year.  They’re dedicated and that’s why there were recently honored at a Booster Club luncheon in Stevenson Ranch.  These volunteers tirelessly and selflessly gave their time, day in and day out, all year long to help the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Santa Clarita Valley is home to a former military man who once called the kitchens at the White House and Camp David his home.  For four years Navy Seaman Louis Eguaras served the tastes of former Presidents George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton and numerous visiting dignitaries and celebrities.
