How will the “Common Core” Affect You?
Any big shift in education standards is going to be tumultuous. As each state struggles to create curricula and train teachers in the new teaching methods, ensure that your child doesn’t get lost along the way.
The best way to ensure that your child is keeping up is to be involved. Carefully monitor their progress and make sure that you have a good relationship with their teacher so that you can catch problems early. If there are gaps in your child’s knowledge or they are having difficulties transitioning to the new methodologies, consider an in-home tutor who is familiar with Common Core State Standards.
Classical Education: A Return to Proven Scholarship
As the modern education establishment implements every new instructional fad, many are returning to a method of education that has been proven successful over centuries.
It has taken modern educators around 150 years to disassemble an educational system that took thousands of years to refine and perfect. The classical education method was born in ancient Greece and Rome, and by the 16th century, it was used throughout the Western world. It was based in the Trivium which is a three phase approach emphasizing grammar, logic and rhetoric.
Executive Functioning: The CEO of Your Child’s Brain
A number of years ago, most parents and teachers of students with ADHD didn’t have a clue that a child’s academic success was contingent upon strong executive skills. “What? Executive skills? My child is only seven years old!”
However, today’s tuned-in parents and educators realize that deficits in critical cognitive skills known as executive functions (EF) are slower to mature in many children with ADHD. This delayed maturation can have negative impacts across the school and home settings.
Your Preschooler and Summer Camp

Helping your Teen Handle Bullying
Bullying can be physical or verbal, it can happen in person or on-line, and adolescents who struggle with social skills are often at a risk for experiencing it. You can help empower your child to reduce the likelihood of him or her becoming a target of a bully. It is important for kids to understand that no one ever deserves to be bullied, and knowing what a bully is looking for can help to avoid being a victim. Some reasons why kids may bully include; they are being bullied themselves, they want to look tough or feel powerful, they are jealous of the child they are bullying, or they are trying to escape their own problems.

Making Math Count
Just as with reading, math is a sequential learning process; it follows specific rules that build one on another like stacking blocks. Â As skills are missed along the way, every block that’s added becomes a little less stable; each basic skill should be mastered before moving on.
When your child starts falling behind in elementary math skills, it becomes progressively more difficult to master higher academic challenges of middle and high school. Â Without a solid foundation in basic math, progressing to higher math and science courses becomes ever more difficult. Â

Exercising for Brain Health
Is your child suffering from anxiety or depression? Or having trouble concentrating or managing their emotions? Therapy, along with regular exercise, can help to improve our mind and body.
There are many studies that back up the benefits of exercise on our physical and mental health. In fact, scientists tend to agree that exercise is the single best thing you can do for your brain, and can even create chemical changes in the brain, virtually in the same way that some medications do. Physical activity improves memory and cognition; helps with insomnia; reduces stress, anxiety, and depression; and improves emotional regulation skills.
Learning Environments
There are a variety of different learning environments. Two of them are the online environment (also known as E-learning), and the collaborative environment (also known as group learning). The collaborative technique has students working
in groups to master objectives. The online technique offers students a more “transparent” way of learning – one where the student can see and hear the entire learning experience.
