Child & Family Center presents its 9th annual Golf Invitational on Monday, July 16, 2007 at Valencia Country Club.  Play this prestigious course, site of the AT&T Champions Tournament.

On Saturday, May 19th, we featured a well-attended art show with nationally renowned artist June Carey.  Carey did a painting demonstration for all those who attended as well as hand embellishing canvas pieces for people who purchased her work.

The S.C.V. Newhall Optimist Club had it ups and it downs this past month.  On a sad note we lost a very dear member, but more then that a friend and part of our Optimist family.  Dottie Brockman was small in stature, but large in heart and optimism, she put up a valiant fight but succumbed to cancer on May 22.

Whether it’s a sparkle in the eye of a proud father as he dances the waltz with his daughter at the culminating event of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild’s Silver Rose Debutante Program, a sense of pride on a mother’s face as her daughter reads a meaningful poem about their relationship at the debutantes’ Mother-Daughter Tea, or a deepening sense of community connection through volunteerism, joining the debutante program has created memories of a lifetime for many debutantes and their parents.     

Those old 8mm, Super 8mm and 16mm movie reels can take you back to another time.  Family gatherings, picnics, birthdays, your child’s first steps, etc.

This is the third month in a row that The Magazine of Santa Clarita has featured the photographs and descriptions of children looking to be adopted.  We’re happy to report a healthy interest from community members who genuinely see the needs of the children and are picking up the phone to inquire about adoption.

They knew there was an outstanding need for families to adopt foster children and had talked about adopting additional children to add to their family of two, but, it wasn’t until they saw a specific article about adoption in last months Magazine of Santa Clarita that they took action.

Erin and Steven O’Bannon of Castaic are the winners of the $60 Roast House Gift Certificate.  A photo of their wedding on March 31st this year on Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii, speaks volumes about their storybook wedding day. 

Unfortunately, it had been more than three years since we last saw one another.  No blame, no one’s fault.  What is important is that we saw one another recently and both felt good and said those three powerful words to one another, “I love you.”  

It always amazes me how the technology of today keeps evolving, whether it’s with computers, automobiles or fine art.

The Safe Surrender program is continuing to be effective across the State of California and the Santa Clarita Valley.  A newborn child was surrendered at Henry Mayo Hospital in the Santa Clarita Valley this past Spring.  It was the eighth Safe Surrender in Los Angeles County in 2007 and the 56th since the program was initiated six years ago.  

How does it happen that someone becomes a fanatic?  You know what I mean, it’s when you can only talk about that thing, it’s all you can think about.  It must be like that chemical reaction that happens when you are in love or at least very infatuated.  Obsession...

Its hard to believe but as you’re reading this editorial it is my duty to tell you that we are almost half way through the year 2007.  What this means to you is that the holiday season (Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa), is right around the corner.
