Infrared Sauna’s
People often ask what the benefits are of an infrared sauna.
Well there are many, many benefits! First of all, the main difference between infrared saunas and a conventional sauna: conventional saunas create a higher heat that heats the air and infrared saunas use a lower temperature that heats the skin directly.
Infrared Saunas:
New Year, New Hope
Happy New Year! This is the time when we make our resolutions. “I’m going to quit smoking,” “I’m going to lose 20 pounds,” “I’m going to learn how to eat right,” “I’m so tired of feeling stressed all the time, I’m going to fix my life this year and feel better,” “I’m going to make it to the gym, run three miles a day and use my exercise videos,” or “I’ll get pregnant this year.” What resolutions have you made for 2010?
Pain Management
When you were a kid you could get through the day without any neck or back pain. When you slept at night you didn’t wake up with neck pain and you could sit for long periods without suffering from back pain. But, as you have aged you realize that your posture is not what it used to be and you suffer from daily neck, and back pain. Your body is trying to tell you something is wrong.
The Ryan Factor
Ryan is a most gifted 10 year-old athlete, breaking records set years before him by older kids. Whether he’s on the basketball court, football field, or swimming pool, Ryan excels and rises above the competition. One of his coaches promised to give one member of the team a Wii game as a price for the most improved and the athlete with the best attitude. It was no surprise that Ryan was selected by the coaches.
The head coach called Ryan’s dad one day before the banquet and told him that Ryan will be getting the prize.
Hospital Staff Mourns Loss of Bob Knoblauch, Facilities Director
The death of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital’s facilities director Robert Knoblauch from cancer on December 8 sent waves of sadness throughout Henry Mayo. Known as Bob, Knoblauch passed away at the hospital he loved and worked at for more than 30 years.
“Bob fought the courageous and difficult fight against cancer the last few months, but chose not to share the details of that fight with his closest friends and colleagues. Instead, Bob kept that battle personal while he contributed to our hospital, even though he was not always able to be here physically,” said Roger Seaver, president and CEO.
Healthy Smiles, Healthy Children Announces Exciting New Grant Initiatives
Every child deserves a healthy start in life, but when it comes to oral health, many children face significant challenges. Children in low-income families tend to have higher rates of tooth decay and have greater difficulty accessing ongoing basic dental care. Some key points that highlight the severity of the problem include:
The Key to Staying Young at Heart
The key to aging gracefully is captured in a single word—exercise. Trouble is those who like to exercise do, those who do not, don’t. And, as we age, our feelings about exercise, especially the negative feelings, just magnify. Done regularly however, the experts say, exercise can help you prevent a number of illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease. It can reduce arthritis pain and lift your depression. So, maybe the real key is finding, and doing, exercises that are easy and fun.
Care About Your Eyes, Starting Today!
Many don’t consider all their eyes do for them, until they are in need of help. With all they see and take in daily, it’s an endless collection of information and data. However, what many fail to see is the need for great care. Caring for the eyes is so specific; they have medical experts who are designated solely to keeping them well. Many just take their eyes and their vision for granted. Vision isn’t just something you have; it is in fact more of a gift. Millions of people have had to learn life-changing skills due to losing their sight. Often times, this is something that can be prevented. With the right knowledge and attitude, you too can have long lasting healthy eyes and enjoyable sight.
What is Crown Lengthening?
There are two purposes to use crown lengthening.
The first is to have a good crown by providing enough retention structure. A crown is an excellent way to cover and protect a tooth that has fractured or been damaged by decay or injury. Sometimes, however, the damage is so extensive that there simply isn’t enough tooth structure to support a crown. In these cases, we can often use a minor surgical procedure called crown lengthening.
Scoliosis
Whenever I teach a course in back and neck care, someone inevitably stands up and states, “you can’t help me, I have scoliosis – my spine is curved.”
Actually, everyone’s spine is curved, like an “S,” with two curves in (at the neck and in the lumbar area) and one curve out (at the back). Each “in” curve is called a lordosis; the “out” curve, a kyphosis. Scoliosis refers to a lateral curve, meaning the spine is curving to the left or right.

Damon Clear The New Clear Choice in Braces!
Today, orthodontic treatment is very different from what it used to be. Over the last few decades, there have been many advances in technology that have greatly improved the esthetics, efficiency and comfort of braces.
You probably are aware of the fact that tooth-colored ceramic braces are available for the image conscious patient. And you may have heard about high-tech, self-ligating braces, which make treatment gentler and more efficient. The exciting news is that now, you can get all these features together in one bracket- the Damon Clear.
Swine Flu, The Big Scare?
As we begin the New Year, we continue to be confronted with the recent fear of coming down with the “Swine Flu.” Of course, it is reasonable to be somewhat concerned, but we all must be reassured that very few people develop severe cases. Those at greatest risk are under age five and over age 65; also, individuals with chronic diseases which impact the immune system, including asthma, diabetes, emphysema, pregnancy, and even chronic smoking.
What is Sleep Dentistry?
As a dentist and physician who specializes in anesthesia, I find myself asking this same question. It seems that many dentists advertise sleep dentistry, as a means for the anxious patient to complete needed dental procedures.
But “sleep dentistry” can be misleading.
How to Achieve the Perfect Smile With Porcelain Veneers!
Dental veneers are custom-designed porcelain shells of tooth-like material that, when applied over the surface of a tooth, can cover worn tooth enamel, uneven tooth alignment or spacing and chips or cracks.
Dental veneers fall into the category of cosmetic dentistry because they create a bright, white smile with beautifully aligned, shapely teeth. Even better, the translucent ceramic quality of today’s veneers provides a more natural look than what’s been available in the past.
Braces and Adults
In our modern society more and more emphasis is placed on looks and appearances. Constant exposure in the media along with greater health awareness has caused an increasing number of adults to seek orthodontic treatment.
Ankle Sprains
More than 25,000 people sprain their ankles every day, according to the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society.
There are four key reasons why an ankle sprain should be promptly evaluated and treated. An untreated ankle sprain may lead to chronic ankle instability, a condition marked by persistent discomfort and a “giving way” of the ankle. You may also develop weakness in the leg. You may have suffered a more severe ankle injury along with the sprain.
The Functional Movement Screen What is it, who should have it and why should I do it?
What is the Functional Movement Screen? The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a screening system used at the highest level to evaluate professional athletes. It is great for evaluating young athletes as well. The screen challenges movement patterns that are essential to normal function and general athletic ability. The purpose is to quickly identify functional limitations and asymmetries.
