It May Be Time Having the Tough Talk with an Elderly Parent
Sometimes We Need to Ask for the Keys
For most of us, our parents were always there when we needed them. They fed us. They clothed us. And they tried to teach us everything they knew.
My Doctor Says I’m Fine, But I Don’t Feel Right!
Many times I hear, “My doctor says I’m fine and the blood tests came back normal, but I just don’t feel ‘right!’” I will address some reasons for this. • It is important to understand that “normal” doesn’t mean...

Mothering: Blessing or Curse
One of the most important, rewarding and demanding jobs is being a mother, yet anything can be taken too far and turn negative. Many people have love-hate relationships with their mothers. Many mothers have the mistaken impression that their job is to take care of their kids, rather than help their kids to take care of themselves. After the kids move away, some mothers put pressure on their kids to repay them for all their sacrifices.
Southern California Orthopedic Institute Moves to New Bridgeport Office

Opening its first Valencia office in 1989 in a small suite on the Henry Mayo campus, SCOI has grown to become firmly established in the Santa Clarita area. On March 16th, SCOI moved to its new location in the Bridgeport Center, where it will continue to provide all aspects of quality orthopedic care. CorneaTransplantation in 2009
Cornea transplantation is the most frequently performed transplant worldwide. Approximately 40,000 cornea transplants are performed in the United States annually. The cornea is the front surface of the eye and is responsible for two-thirds of the focusing power of the eye. It is primarily made of layers of collagen in ordered rows that allow light to pass through. Injury, infections and disease can cause the cornea to lose its transparency and result in a loss of vision.
Spring into Summer Skin
It may surprise you to know that the skin does not actually produce that much more oil in the summertime, although humidity excess perspiration and sunscreen can make you feel a bit slippery. As a result, many people tend to use stronger cleansers and oil-controlling products to help cut through the greasy feeling.
40-Day Prosperity Plan
In times of stress, feeling we need help but having no one to turn to, we often turn to a higher power. We all do this in different ways. For some, it may be going to church, getting out in nature, turning within, or meditating.
With the uncertainty of our economy, it has many a little unsettled and looking for spiritual help. Just as in any of the recovery programs, AA, CA, NA, OA, all promote turning to a higher power and learning to trust that we are being guided for our greatest and highest good, no matter what the appearances.
Deafness and Tinnitus
Both deafness and tinnitus are auditory disturbances. Tinnitus is characterized by a ringing sound in the ears felt by the patient and deafness is failing or loss of hearing. Because of the similarities between these two conditions in etiology and treatment, they are discussed together.

Mind, Body and Heart at Sierra Canyon Physical Therapy
It is my pleasure to introduce myself as the new owner of Sierra Canyon Physical Therapy. Having been a physical therapist for the past 20 years, I’ve never forgotten why I chose my profession in the first place – I really enjoy helping people. Over the years, I’ve worked with individuals of all ages and with all types of challenges – sports injuries, strokes, broken bones – patients with everything from serious illnesses to minor injuries. I try to be a teacher to those I treat in order to speed their recovery. An informed patient is in the best position to help in their own return to health.
Working with What We’ve Got
“What did you find Dr. K? Am I going to be okay?” My patient must have asked because usually I’m not so silent. I stared hard at the monitors as the catheter engaged his left coronary artery. Seven years had passed since I performed his last angiogram. At that time, he had terrible chest pains, and a complete work up elsewhere showed he was “normal.”

Complementary and Alternative Medicine(CAM)

Body Sculpturing after Weight Loss/Large Weight Loss
Obesity is the accumulation of excess body fat that leads to health problems the most serious of which include: Hypertension, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Stroke, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and degenerative joint disease. Those patients with a Body Mass Index of 35 to 40 with associated health problems qualify for weight loss surgery. BMI equals weight in pounds/(height in inches) squared multiplied by 703. The type of weigh loss procedure can have different effects on weight loss and on long term nutritional status. The most commonly performed procedure is the Gastric Bypass/Laparoscopic Gastric bypass performed in the USA with weight stabilization within the first nine to 12 months with significant weight loss of approximately 60 to 70 percent.

A Diamond in the Rough
When it comes to Omega 3 fatty acids most people are in the dark about pertinent information. Since the industry pushes the Omega 3 aspect of fish oil, people mistakenly believe it’s the most important aspect. They also believe that any fish oil that advertises Omega 3’s is yielding a host of health benefits. So, let’s take a look.
