It was a packed store at the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours Mixer held at Ashley Furniture on Wednesday, January 18 at 5:30 p.m. Guests gathered around for an evening of delicious food, drinks and networking.

Sharing Their Love for Music
From January 12 through January 15, students were able to be a part of the Young Americans USA Outreach Tour, which tours the region in the USA once every three years, reaching over 25,000 students in 130 cities. Legacy Christian Academy in Valencia was chosen to host a workshop as part of the tour lead by Corkey and Kris Lee. Students were able to experience performance, dance and music in a whole new way.

On Tuesday, January 17, guests gathered at Salt Creek Grille in Valencia to welcome the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center Foundation’s new Board of Directors. Also acknowledged on the evening of the event were the Outstanding Volunteers and Corporate Partners. Honorees include Linda Pippin, West Ranch High School and Lockheed Federal Credit Union.

An Evening of Laughs Santa Clarita Elks Charity Roast
It was an evening of entertainment at the 14th Annual Elks Charity Roast benefiting the Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers on Saturday, January 21 at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge in Canyon Country. CEO of Heys Plumbing, John Heys, was this year’s Roastee. This year’s Elks Roast was MC’d by Bob Kellar and guests enjoyed a social hour, along with dinner, live auction, and the roast.
Operation School Bell® in the SCV
The results are in! 1,742 happy students from all of the elementary and junior high schools in Santa Clarita, are now wearing new clothes and shoes provided by Assistance League Santa Clarita funding. For fourteen evenings, volunteer members were on hand to help the families of children in need shop for school clothes at Kohl’s and receive gift cards for Payless Shoes. “Some of the stories of families we helped this year really tugged at your heart and solidified why we do what we do!! We are all making the difference by reaching out to others.” said President, Mel Johnson.
CBS Preschoolers Don Their PJs to Celebrate the Festival of Lights
Preschoolers at Congregation Beth Shalom’s Early Childhood Education Center got cozy in their pajamas and enjoyed Hanukkah story time and treats during the school’s annual Hannukah Pajama Night on Friday, December 16. The fun took place at Congregation Beth Shalom, 21430 Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita.

Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley Presents $8,000 Donation to Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center. On November 21, 2011 Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley presented a check to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center in the amount of $8,000.
Rally for the Cure
The Ladies’ Club at TPC at Valencia held a member’s Rally for the Cure golf tournament on December 4, 2011, in support of Susan G. Komen. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures.
A White Christmas at Saugus High School
Saugus High School Associated Student Body brought in 14 tons of snow for students to enjoy on the last regular day of school before finals next week.
A Show of Support
On Tuesday, December 13, members of Soroptimist International of Greater Santa Clarita Valley presented a check to the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital NICU and Shiela R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center in the amounts of $8, 333 and $7,500. The money is a donation from the Wine Affair... Sip, Stroll & Savor the Sounds event held on October 16, 2011.
A Happy Holidays for Everyone
With help from local organizations, the Newhall Community Center hosted a holiday party as a celebratory finale to the Citywide annual toy drive. The event featured a musical performance from the Community Center Youth Choir, arts and crafts, along with a special visit with Santa Claus.

On November 28, 2011 Soroptimist of Santa Clarita Valley presented a check to Circle of Hope in the amount of $5,500. This donation was a portion of the proceeds gained during their 8th Annual “ Bras for a Cause 2011… Denim and Diamond Hoedown” fundraiser held on October 2, 2011 at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
Making the Holidays Special for Everyone
On Thursday December 8, 2011, the San Fernando Valley Veterans Employment Committee (SFV/VEC) hosted part two of the annual Operation Holiday at the American Legion Post 176 located at 602 Pico Street in San Fernando.
The VEC provides San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valley veterans and their families with employment related assistance and supportive services throughout the year. Operation Holiday is another way the VEC honors our local veterans.
