Hello comedy fans – we have another month of comedy, which is so hilarious it is “spooky.”  We start the month off on October 5 and 6, with Chris Alpine making his first appearance at J.R.’s.

Chris formed his comedy chops in Seattle, and has become one of the most demanded comedians on cruise ships, and corporate events in the country.

Santa Clarita City Councilmember Marsha McLean is the 2012 recipient of the Sierra Club’s Conservationist of the Year for her work in preserving Elsmere Canyon.  The award is from the Santa Clarita Valley chapter of the Sierra Club.

“I am so proud of Marsha’s 25-plus years of work on this issue.  It has culminated in Elsmere Canyon not only being saved from becoming a dump, but this beautiful canyon is now preserved and annexed into the City of Santa Clarita.  This is a tremendous victory for everyone,” commented Sandra Cattell, Open Space and Wildlands Chair for the Sierra Club Santa Clarita Group.

The first Santa Clarita Belgian beer fest held in downtown Newhall was thoroughly enjoyed by those that wanted to sample Belgian ales, lambics and stouts, those that wanted to wine taste, and those that love food trucks, beer lessons, Belgian waffles, Belgian frites and much more. 

Thai food is internationally known for its well-prepared dishes with a unique blend of flavors.  All the ingredients are carefully picked for their freshness and healthiness.  Thai cuisine is distinct from Chinese, Japanese, Indian and other Asian cuisines because it incorporates all five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and spicy.  What makes Thai food interesting is that it also incorporates many types of herbs and spices into the recipes.  Thai recipes contain the finest spices and herbs found in Southeast Asia.

Judged art show of over 200 pieces on display.  Donation of $25 on October 20 includes fun-filled silent auction, appetizers and entertainment.  Free public viewing on Sunday, October 21.

A musical treat for young and old, the world famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, is coming to the Santa Clarita Valley for one night only!  On Wednesday, November 7, the West Ranch High School Music Department will proudly present, the most sought after Big Band in the world, the Glenn Miller Orchestra.  

So is everyone ready for the rest of my story?  I have to tell you that some things changed dramatically in just a month.  I would never want to date someone who already has a boyfriend, but she made it sound like it was over.  One date led to another, and pretty soon a relationship was forming.  Or so I thought.  The more we got together, the more I wanted to see her.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will once again hold its annual Fun in the Sun Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, October 6 at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center in Castaic.  It’s a must attend event for all you chili fans as there will be many chili booths, games, vendors, food, a kid zone, live music and more.

It can be difficult to live in a time where owning a home and being self-sufficient is more of a rarity than a common occurrence.  The struggle to be independent and have enough left over for extra entertainment spending or even a retirement fund becomes all too relevant.  Our generation is one where the American dream is a battle to stay afloat.  It is easy to become bitter and resentful that times are tough.

As I sit here in deep thought, I came to the conclusion that I have been in love two times.  Now I know what you are thinking, how could the “Luv Doctor” only have been in love twice in his life?  Well there are a few reasons why I say this.  First off, I do have to say that my first love was my ex-wife. 

We get the question all the time on how to make the best sushi rice?  A big part of this is to have a good rice cooker, it really makes a big difference!

A bedding of dough, a splash of tomato sauce, a layering of cheese, and a healthy amount of meat and veggies, the universal art of pizza making has been around for centuries and has symbolically been a representative of Italian cuisine on menus all over the world.  There are not too many nations that can say their national dish has become an international phenomenon.  

The walls of the First Floor Gallery at City Hall now include more than 40 works of art by students of College of the Canyons’ Graphic and Multimedia Design Program.  The new exhibit titled “Visit Santa Clarita, Illustrated Travel Posters” was installed this week and will be on display through November 16, at City Hall, located at 23920 Valencia Boulevard.  

Get ready for September with another “Cool” month of comedy.  Craig Shoemaker “The Lovemaster” will be back at the club for four big shows at the start of the month on August 31 and September 1.  Craig is a favorite on Showtime, and Sirius XM radio.  He is one of our most requested comedians and his shows will sell out.

The REP is delighted to present the final chapter of our favorite detective in Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, sponsored by Power Valencia.  Writer Stephen Dietz has adapted the story, based on the original 1899 play by William Gillette and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and brings a fresh flare that is sure to please even the purest of Sherlock fans!
