Two Exciting Events for Santa Clarita’s “Cutest Kids”

The 14th annual “Santa Clarita’s Cutest Kids Pageant” will be presented on Sunday, October 28 at the Hyatt Valencia.  Girls from newborn to twelve years and boys newborn to six years are eligible to participate in this self-esteem and child enrichment event.  The pageant is unique in that it offers two separate beauty divisions: dressy or casual.  There will be queens, kings, princes and princesses awarded in each age division.

On Thursday, September 27, Allure Wellness Medical Spa and LifeMind Hypnotherapy and Life-Coaching will host a non-profit event, the “Evening of Healing: Wellness & Relaxation Retreat.”  Guests will be able to sample services like facials, eyebrow sculpting, hypnotherapy relaxation, meditation techniques, massage, reiki, acupuncture, energy healings, psychic readings and life-coaching consultations.

COC Receives $10,000 Gift from the Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Charitable Foundation

ImageThe Jack Oakie and Victoria Horne Charitable Foundation has awarded the Fine and Performing Arts Division at College of the Canyons $10,000 per year, which will be distributed to as many as 10 students as scholarship awards in the amount of $1,000 each.  The first scholarships will be awarded in fall 2007 to students studying theatre, dance, music and fine arts at the college.

ImageThe 2008 Amgen Tour of California professional cycling road race will take place February 17 to 24, 2008, as confirmed today by AEG, presenters of the record-setting ‘Tour de France-style’ cycling road race staged across many of California’s most scenic state highways, roadways and coastline drives.  Already considered cycling’s most important and successful road race held in the United States, the event’s third running will cover more than 700 miles (increased from 650 miles in 2007) over the eight days.

ImageExecutive and Artistic Director of the Canyon Theatre Guild, TimBen Boydston, announced that the Guild was recently approved to receive a Performing Arts Grant from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.  “Many thanks to our County Supervisor, Michael Antonovich, the Board of Supervisors and the L.A. County Arts Commission,” Boydston said.

ImageThis month, the City of Santa Clarita and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station launched the City of Santa Clarita Business Alliance program.
Coordinated through the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station and its Business Relations Office, the new City of Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Business Alliance program will utilize department personnel and station volunteers to assist in maintaining a database, outreach to our business community, sending out frequent communications and facilitating the various business training programs.

A Place to Be Just a Kid Again

ImageSanta Clarita residents are invited to Shell We Camp, a dinner and fall carnival for adults on September 29 at The Painted Turtle camp.
The Painted Turtle is part of the international family of Hole in the Wall camps founded by actor Paul Newman, but it is the only camp west of the Mississippi River.  Painted Turtle campers are children from the Santa Clarita Valley and beyond with one of 12 chronic or life-threatening medical conditions.  All campers attend completely free of charge for the life-changing opportunity to feel like a kid again.

ImageOn August 7, 2007 the Santa Clarita Valley came together to support the National Night Out event.  The City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department encouraged residents to get to know their neighbors in an effort to prevent crime in our community.  The City of Santa Clarita is dedicated to keeping our streets safe and preventing crime.  By participating in the National Night Out event, community members sent a message that our neighborhoods are striving to be safer places to live, work and play for families and kids.

The contractor, Security Paving Construction, has begun working on the outlet structure that connects to the storm drain box that leads into the Santa Clara River.  The city’s on-site biologist, Entrix, is monitoring the construction activities on a daily basis.  All necessary permitting has been secured from the various environmental agencies.

ImageAs the 2007-2008 school year approaches, the Hart District is placing the finishing touches on two modernization projects.  Both Arroyo Seco Junior High School and Saugus High School will open their doors to students who have witnessed the transformation of their campus over the last few years.  While some work will not be completed until a week or two after the year begins, all of the major modernization will be completed.
