Students from Valencia and West Ranch high schools and Placerita Junior High have returned with a number of honors from the Student Television Network (STN) National Affiliates Convention recently in Anaheim, including first place awards in the Public Service Announcement, Spot Feature and Humorous Feature categories.

Saturday, March 8th will be a truly unique evening at the William S. Hart Park!  To celebrate the 85th anniversary of the release of Charlie Chaplin’s “The Pilgrim,” the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society and the William S. Hart Museum will be hosting a screening of the movie in the Saugus Train Station where it was originally filmed!

With shovels in hand, students from the neighborhood Fair Oaks Ranch Community School joined Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich; Pardee Homes’ President and CEO Mike McGee; and other County and school officials in planting a commemorative oak tree as part of the dedication of the new Fair Oaks Ranch Park in Canyon Country.  Joining them were local community residents, youth and community organization representatives, and other local officials from throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Second District Court of Appeal (Division 6) ruled on January 29, 2008 that the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for Newhall Land’s planned RiverVillage community sufficiently addresses water supply, habitat impacts and all other issues raised by opposition groups.

In 2007, Wells Fargo awarded $38,500 to non-profit organizations and schools in the Santa Clarita Valley, including those in the communities of Castaic, Newhall, Santa Clarita and Valencia.

By now you have probably heard about the Going Green movement.  This movement encompasses everything from keeping our water, air, and land clean to using our natural resources wisely, to recycling and reducing pollution.  More and more products are being made with recycled materials, and companies are becoming more aware of eco-friendly methods….But did you know that you can even “Go Green” when you paint your house?

The City Council approved a proposal presented by City Council Member Tim Ben Boyston to create a one percent For The Arts.  The council will need to create the necessary material in order for the community to become more involved.

Too much stuff that isn’t in the right place.  It’s called clutter.  If you can’t put your hands on it when you need it, it’s clutter.  Need help knowing what stays and what goes?  Keep things that you actually use or refer to.  That’s it!  All the rest is cluttering your space and your mind.

When the William S. Hart Union High School District created its first Early College High School (ECHS) last fall, it had a primary goal of encouraging students to attend college who were ready to take on the challenges of high school and college.  With first semester grades now in, it appears that the school is well on its way to meeting those goals.

Continued from last month: Once we have all of the necessary stamped plans and engineering details we prepare checks made payable to the appropriate municipality and go to pull the permits.  Our company pulls permits in the City of Santa Clarita, The County of Los Angeles, The City of Los Angeles, Calabasas, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Beverly Hills and Ventura County.  All of these municipalities are basically the same with respect to pulling a permit.  The biggest difference is the amount of time it takes to get the permit and the cost of the permit.

Santa Clarita Emergency Winter Shelter Puts Out a Plea to the Community

With five weeks left in the Emergency Winter Shelter Season, the Santa Clarita Shelter, operated by the SCCDC, is in danger of not being able to fulfill its purpose where families with children are concerned. 

It’s spring and it’s time to go out into the garden.  It is the time to renew and grow; a renewal not only for plants, but for people and animals as well.
