Facey Medical Group: Comprehensive Care for Your Community
Facey Medical Group’s presence in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys began over 85 years ago when Dr. Facey first moved from North Dakota to San Fernando to begin his practice. What started as a general practitioner’s small community clinic has grown into the region’s leading medical group with a staff of nearly 1,200 employees and over 130 board-certified physicians.
Facey first came to Santa Clarita in 1967 and as the area’s population quickly grew, so did we. Today, our five clinics in the region employ over 300 talented and dedicated local residents who provide care to one third of the valley. Our service area stretches from Castaic in the North to Canyon Country in the East and Valencia in the South.

Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
Whether it is yourself or a loved one being treated for cancer with radiation, there is always that thought in the back of your mind whether the radiation is being delivered correctly and safely. IGRT is the next advancement in radiation treatment technology that allows radiation to be delivered to tumors with greater precision. Treatment challenges are routinely encountered each day when the precise delivery of the radiation dose to the tumor is expected by the physician and patient.
Short-Term Therapy Can Help You Get Perspective and Reduce Stress
Jeremy knew he wasn’t feeling right, but he didn’t know what to do about it. It seemed like all of the time, he felt either anxious or depressed. It started to take a toll on his family and affected his work, too. A friend of his had benefited from counseling, so Jeremy decided to give it a try. It took some time, but by talking out his feelings, he was able to get his life on better track.
Class IV High Power Therapeutic Laser
We are proud to announce we have added the latest technology to treat acute and chronic pain and inflammation. It’s a new form of energy medicine called Class IV High Power Therapeutic Laser. Orthopedic and neurosurgeons in California and Florida are using this technology instead of epidural injects and cortico-steriod injects. Why? Because it’s non-invasive (no needles, or drugs) and does not have side effects or risks.
Too Close for Comfort When Seniors Live with Their Kids
For some families, there’s no question when it’s time for their parents to stop living alone, mom and dad are definitely moving in with them. On the other hand, we talk with families all the time who can’t imagine making it work with mom and dad sharing their home, even if it may be the very best option and even if it’s a growing trend.
Lap-Band Success
Today, more than ever, we have access to the technology and availability of the necessary tools to assist in weight loss – from parks designed with walking and bicycle paths to hundreds of weight loss programs and a variety of weight management and improvement procedures. At the end of the day, it all comes down to feeling better, performing well, and of course, looking great. We’ve all seen the commercials and ads, with a happy person holding up a super large pair of pants, indicating their past weight and their current weight loss.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture literally means “needle piercing,” a rather painful-sounding term for the practice of inserting very fine needles into the skin to stimulate specific points called acupuncture points. The points are stimulated to balance the movement of energy in the body and the process can cause slight discomfort rather than the pain that its name suggests.
Healthy Bones
The body is made up of over 200 bones, and it is this framework, or skeleton, that supports and gives shape to the body while it protects the vital organs. Contrary to a common misconception, bone is a living substance. In fact, bone is one of the most active tissues in the body. By a process known as remodeling, bone is constantly being broken down and rebuilt.
Weight Control
“Dr. Kim, I can do anything to lose weight. Except for diet control,” is a statement many men and women hear and say, to and from their peers. How good would it be if one could eat all they would like to and lose weight at the same time? Acupuncture and Asian medicine are the answer to this question.
Free Tai Chi Class for Cancer Patients
Tai Chi is a slow motion application of the martial art Kung Fu. Instead of directing the life force energy out as one would do in combat, Tai Chi draws energy in. When properly followed, the “moving meditation” is characterized by slow and gentle flowing movements. At the beginning of the class, participants clear their minds, a task easier said than done.
Health Tip: Traumatic Events May Affect Sleep Suggestions to Get a Better Night’s Rest
If you’ve been traumatized by an act of violence, a car accident, or the death of a loved one, the repercussions can affect your daily life, including your sleep. The National Sleep Foundation describes how a traumatic event can cause sleep disturbances, and offers suggestions to help you sleep better:
Balancing Work and Being a Caregiver
According to a Metlife Mature Market Institute report, June 2003, an increasing percentage of the workforce is actively involved in caring for a relative or friend age 50 or over. Studies have shown that nearly half of those caregivers are men.
Both women and men are equally likely to report themselves as the primary caregiver. Men and women are also indicating that they are both taking responsibility to provide help with everyday task including:
Declaring Your Interest
We’ve all encountered people who drew our interest. Sometimes we interact with them daily, while others attract us by their creative accomplishments without even having met them. How do we let them know that they’ve attracted our attention? Fearful of rejection or negative reactions, we often choose to let opportunities pass by. It’s challenging to meet a compatible partner, so we need to question the wisdom of letting opportunities pass us by.
When Times Seem Difficult
The news is everywhere that “times are tough.” It’s easy to become fearful and panicky about the future. Homes and jobs are being lost and people are becoming desperate. During difficult times fear and panic are contagious. Focusing on within becomes the only choice for balance. What do I mean by “focusing on within?”

The Marvels of Blood
As any plastic surgeon can tell you, blood is essential to life and to healing. This crimson elixir was recently reviewed in an article by Natalie Angier in the New York Times. She explained that humans are born with about a pint of blood and that this grows to about four or five quarts by adulthood. The stuff is precious: if at any point someone suddenly loses about a third of their blood volume, they must get a transfusion or risk meeting their maker.
