Wednesday, June 18 was something special for a Canyon High School graduate and Canyon Country at large, as Tyler Hawkins, a standout linebacker for Canyon High School returned home to a surprise party hosted by his parents but attended by many from the SCV.

On Thursday, June 5, Single Mothers Outreach announced six new honorees for their 5th annual Empowering HeArts fundraiser that will take place in November, 2014.

It was a beautiful afternoon as the Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays Santa Clarita Valley (PFLAG SCV) Gay-Straight Alliances at the Hart District and College of the Canyons and community members gathered for the First Annual Give ‘Em Hope BBQ that took place on Saturday, May 24.

Mayor Laurene Weste hosted a “Lifetime of Service Tribute” to Connie Worden-Roberts on Friday, May 16 at Hart Hall, located at William S. Hart Park.  Mayor Weste, along with many other special guests celebrated Connie for being one of the original members of the City’s first Planning Commission and a leader in the formation of the City of Santa Clarita.

The Santa Clarita Valley is often mentioned as a big town that has been able to hold on to small town value, and that was in full force on Memorial Day as a record turnout appeared at Eternal Valley for their annual celebration of those who had given their all for their country.

On Saturday, June 7, guests were dressed to impress in Roman attire, all to support a great cause at the 43rd Annual Boys & Girls Club Auction. 

Thousands rallied to show their support for the American Cancer Society’s popular Relay For Life Santa Clarita, which took place at Central Park beginning on Saturday, May 17 and 18. 

It was a fun evening as Santa Clarita’s finest were auctioned off at the Soroptimist International of Santa clarita Valley’s Annual Gentlemen for a Cause event on May 17, at the beautiful Bridgeport Clubhouse in Valencia.  Monies raised will benefit Soroptimist Community Service Projects.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon as nearly 600 walkers took laps around Westfield Valencia Town Center on Saturday, May 3, for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual Great Strides Walk. 

The 11th Annual Summer Meltdown, an Autism Awareness Art & Music Festival took place on Saturday, April 26 at the Santa Clarita Skatepark.

On April 27, The Assistance League Operation School Bell® 5K Run/Walk and “Mutt Strut” made history in their 25th anniversary year with 761 runners (including over 500 local Junior High students), the largest number of runners ever!  The race benefits their signature philanthropic program known as Operation School Bell®, all proceeds of which provide clothes and shoes for students in need in The Santa Clarita Valley. 

It was an extremely warm Sunday afternoon, but that didn’t stop thousands of eventgoers as they gathered at the Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center’s Taste of the Town on Sunday, May 4 at the beautiful Mann Biomedical Park. 

Golfers hit the greens at the 41st Annual Frontier Toyota/Henry Mayo “Drive Safe” Golf Classic on May 10, at the beautiful Valencia Country Club. 

Guests cheered as their favorite men and women of the Santa Clarita Valley hit the catwalk for the 2014 Soroptimist International of Greater SCV’s 4th Annual Fashion Show: Fashion, Follies & Fun on Sunday, March 23, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.

An Open House for Evelyn Adams was held at Green Thumb Garden Center on Saturday, February 22, Evelyn was retiring after 33 years of service.

“Inspired!” “Pride!” “Nostalgic!” “Dedication!” Those were the words used by members to describe Assistance League’s 25th Anniversary celebration held on Sunday, February 16, at the Tournament Players Club Valencia.
