All Aboard for Fun!
Many Southern California residents take day-trips and are now seeking ways to contain it to one tank of gas. Rick Romero, popular newscaster with Los Angeles ABC Channel 7 featured Fillmore and Santa Paula recently in his One-Tank Getaways.

A Cupcake Stand Will Change the Whole Face of Your Next Party
Have you ever made cupcakes for a party or event and had really no place to put those delicious little cakes of heaven? Most people place them on normal plate or serving platter and set them on the table amongst all the other treats; but there’s one problem with that ... you can only fit so many on a plate, which means constant replenishment; and they don’t really stand out.
Fondue Anyone?
On my last trip overseas I stopped off in the small town of Interlaken on our way north through Switzerland. This beautiful mountain settlement is nestled between two massive lakes just south of Zurich. Our reason for this unscheduled detour… canyoning and fondue.

You Are What You Eat – Fresh or Frozen/Pre-Processed?
You take your spouse, date, family or friends out to dinner, order your food, and you get… television dinners? Certainly this is not what you expect from a restaurant, but did you know that most major restaurant chains use central processing kitchens to pre-make many menu items, freeze them in plastic bags, and ship it out to all their restaurants? This is how they control food cost, labor expense, and try to make sure of consistent taste in each restaurant. When you order, they thaw the pre-cooked food in microwaves or water, cut the bags open and put them on the grill or in a pan for a quick heat up to make it seem like it was made fresh.
Dine, Dance and Sleuth on the Rails
Climb aboard, sit back and relax, be waited on, or put on your dancin’ shoes, party and make merry aboard one of Fillmore & Western Railway Co summer dinner trains.
Murder Mystery Dinner Theater is the most popular as you “guess who dun it.” Dancing and dining are features of other summer dinner trains such as Margarita Madness or Shake, Rattle & Rail.
If you want to kick up your heels or dazzle your guest with a creative night to remember, climb aboard one of our themed dinner trains.
An Ambassador’s Suggestions Bettering our City with some Seattle Wisdom
My hometown, Seattle, is a green haven where Seasonal Affective Disorder is a formidable plague and plaid flannel is layered under Northface fleece as a necessary precaution against frigid rain. It’s generally regarded as a pale caffeine addict’s paradise. There are no gang-dominated neighborhoods, but we do have Microsoft Country, which is equally dangerous because of the large concentration of overworked and slightly depressed software geniuses lurking about.
Unsurprisingly, my family’s impending move to Southern California aroused an inkling of trepidation.
J.R.’s Comedy Corner Dave Coulier “Uncle Joey” from Full House is back at J.R.’s!
Hello Comedy Fans! We have another terrific month of comedy in August; highlighted by Dave Coulier, who starred as “Uncle Joey,” on the hit show Full House. Some people may not know this, but Dave Coulier was one of the top comedians in the country when he was cast on this very popular show and became a household friend.
Welsh Cakes A Delicious, Versatile and Guilt-Free Treat from the Old World
Croeso Again (That’s “Welcome” in Welsh). For those of you just tuning in, my name is Denise Carbone (formerly Denise McCarthy) and my husband Joe and I run The Welsh Baker. We are America’s premiere purveyors of Welsh Cakes west of the Mississippi. We make our cakes right here in Santa Clarita and we sell them by the thousands at fairs, festivals and events throughout the Western States. We also sell our cakes locally thru the Coffee Kiosk chain of drive thru coffee stores.
What is a Welsh Cake? I’ve heard that question at least a thousand times! Welsh Cakes are a unique Celtic treat from Wales, a tradition passed down thru the generations in Welsh families. They are a griddled cake, not baked, which is the key to their unique taste and texture. I’ve been griddling cakes using making my family recipe since I was a little girl growing up in Wales.
A Guy’s Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita
Have you ever had a secret admirer? Or have you ever been the secret admirer? I am totally guilty of this, and more than once. I am sure most of us have done this. So who is this person we are fixated on? This could be someone you are attracted to at work. It could also be a person you look up to. Did you ever go up to that person and confess, or have you just kept silent, and not said a word?
What Should a Catering Contract Include?
“Event Details: The date, location, start time, and length of your event.
Cost Breakdown: The number of guests you expect at your event; the price per adult guest; the price per child guest and vendor; if you’re hosting a buffet-style or tray-passed event, the method in which prices are determined: by the guest or the plate; the total cost of rentals provided by your caterer; the estimated total cost for the reception.
What’s Going on Tonight?
The majority of Santa Clarita’s population is made up of couples, and most with a child or three. This poses a bit of a problem when it comes to the intricacies of going out for the night. Yet still a very important part of mommy and daddy’s sanity. After all, that was a big part of getting most couples from “me” to “we”! And now that the dating is done, you take out all the pointless games; we simply call it “Date Night”! So when the stars are aligned, you’ve cleared your calendars and found someone you somewhat trust to watch the kids, but are not looking to stray so far from home… what to do in the SCV?
Burrito or Fajita?
Why not have a fajita burrito? A burrito is one of the more popular Mexican dishes composed of a variety of meat selections. Most people enjoy them with fillings such as lime, onion, cheese, cilantro, lettuce, sour cream, salsa, guacamole, etc. Most families enjoy burritos because they are a quick and easy meal all rolled into one tortilla. They are also very easy to eat when you are on the go. To add variety to your burritos try it “fajita” style.
There is a long history for this hand-held take out food. Indigenous people have been recorded eating hand held snacks for a long time.

Pine Mountain Club
Join Pine Mountain Club on August 19 through 21, as a multifaceted festival takes place at the base of Mt. Pinos in the Los Padres National Forest. This third annual cultural celebration, inspired by Chumash legends, to whom Mt. Pinos was Liyikshup, or “Center of the World,” features Native American storytelling, storytelling videos, songwriting competition, and an amateur playwright competition, with plays about humankind’s relationship with nature and ecological challenges.
The eco-drama theme is based upon the Chumash concept of keeping balance with the universe and humankind. Ten short plays, chosen from selections received from around the U.S., will be performed in a reader’s theater style. The audience votes for grand prize festival winner.
What it Takes to Run a Successful Small Business
Running a small business (the mom and pops of our community) in a world of large chain stores is a tough endeavor. Most importantly, it requires commitment... a huge commitment. It requires long, hard hours. So you have to believe in it more than anyone else. You have to be truly passionate about what you do. Passion is not something that can be taught, but it’s something you definitely need. If you love what you do, that love will be seen in your product. And sooner rather than later everyone will be catching onto that passion.
