Welsh Cakes – Not a Cookie, Not a Scone, In a Class of Their Own!

Croeso (that’s “Welcome” in Welsh).  My name is Denise Carbone and I am The Welsh Baker.  I was born in Wales but I immigrated to the United States 20 years ago.  I’ve been making Welsh Cakes all my life from a recipe that was handed down over the generations in my family.  My husband Joe and I started making Welsh Cakes commercially in America just over a year ago.  Since then we have sold more than 100,000 cakes.  We make our cakes right here in Santa Clarita and we sell and ship them daily to people in every state.

The Wide World of Craft Beer

The Wide World of Craft Beer

This is an exciting time to be a beer drinker!  The vast array of brands and beer styles available today has created a multitude of compatible selections for every occasion and every palate.  For those just getting to know craft beer, it can feel a bit overwhelming, so let’s discuss fundamentals; most beers are broken into two broad categories, Lagers and Ales.  Your typical brewing ingredients are Water, Malt, Yeast and Hops (the stabilizer and flavoring agent).

A Guys Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita

A Guys Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita

Well if you read last month’s article, you saw that Julie has retired to pursue other interests.  I would once again like to thank her.  If it were not for Julie, I would not be writing this article.  A lot of my readers were wondering if I might be leaving to pursue other interests.  I want to calm any fears by saying that all three of my books have already been published, and that all three have become best sellers.

A Guys Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita

A Guys Take On Being Single in Santa Clarita

Hello to both of my readers, something amazing happened to me.  I better start this from the beginning.  A few weeks back I met this very nice lady.  She was gorgeous, and we met on a Sunday morning for what else, a coffee date.  It went so well we continued on with lunch, and later for dinner.  We got together every day that week, and on Friday we both had the day off and went to breakfast.

Pizza, Pasta and So Much More!

Pizza, Pasta and So Much More!

Numero Uno Pizza is known for casual fining and famous for it’s deep dish pizza.  Owner Daniel Lavalle says it’s a regular occurance for customers to inquire about purchasing the dough it’s so loved!  When I arrived at Numero Uno Pizza, it was nice to find such easy parking and lovely views.  Located on Bouquet Canyon Road, near IHOP and by Jill’s Cakes, Numero Uno is tucked away in a beautiful location with large windows that overlook a flourishing earthy coutryard.  It even offers a lovely little area for a stroll after your lunch or dinner.

Santa Clarita – A Ghost Town?

Santa Clarita – A Ghost Town?

Will Santa Clarita become a Ghost Town?  Will businesses continue to flee California and Santa Clarita causing a snowball effect that cannot be reversed.
That’s the cynics’ opinions that drive the streets and see “For Lease” signs everywhere.  They see parking lots that used to be full now bare.  Isn’t it great? SCBJ March issue shows vacancies in office, industrial and retail space all increased this year in the City of SC and SCV.

Sweet and Savory Treats with Man’oushée Bakery and Café

As soon as you step inside Man’oushée Mediterranean Bakery and Café, it is clear that you are not in a typical bakery in Santa Clarita.  The smells of Lebanese -Armenian savory and sweet treats fill the air and transport you halfway around the world.  The food is fresh; everything is prepared from scratch every single morning and baked in their one of a kind brick oven.  Owner Maral Sabounjian, take great pride in the food and service that she provides.

On May 23, we will be having the second annual J.R.’s Comedy Club Celebrity Golf Classic.  We had a blast last year, and this year’s tournament should be bigger and better!  All proceeds benefit the Santa Clarita Homeless Shelter, which unfortunately just had its busiest year ever.  This shelter provides food and a warm bed for the less fortunate among us right here in Santa Clarita.

It’s a World Gone Cupcakes

It’s a World Gone Cupcakes

With a store practically on every corner, cupcakes have become a pop culture trend.  Cupcakes can be traced back as far as 1796, when author Amelia Simms “American Cookery” noted a recipe “a cake to be baked in small cups.”  Some culinary historians claim there are two theories: the batter was cooked in cups and the other a cup measure was used.
