One of the most fun things about scrapbooking is all of the embellishments that you can create.  It’s fun when someone thinks outside the box and creates something we can use both on and off the page.  Erin Bassett, a Design Team Member at Remember When Scrapbooking created this great little bracelet.

Mother’s Day is a special time to honor our wonderful mothers.  Mothers possess many endearing qualities and that’s what makes them such unique individuals.  Mothers give so much of their selves and usually expect so little in return.  With their tender, caring ways, their love is like no other.

The Country Antique Fair Mall will host their annual spring sale Friday, May 7 thru Sunday, May 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  “The Fair,” centrally located in Santa Clarita has become one of the city’s oldest businesses, having opened its doors in 1979.  In fact, turning 31 this year, they will celebrate their anniversary with another sale in November.

The arts support learning across the curriculum.  A classroom that celebrates the arts is a safe and joyful learning environment.  When teachers combine the arts with other subjects, they create exciting and vivid learning experiences, which enhance learning across many subject areas.  For Example: Acting out a favorite story, describing a painting or performing a puppet show can support reading and writing skills.

Every year in our industry a national publication, Home Accents Today, publishes their selection of the top 50 retailers in America.  And each year I read about these stores across our country that inspire us to be our best, keep abreast of trends and continually re-invent ourselves.  This year I will get the honor of reading about ourselves!

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Santa Clarita Branch recently celebrated International Women’s Month by presenting a special event at Marie Callender’s.  The program, titled “International Women Humanitarians from Nicaragua to Nepal,” featured two dynamic women speakers.

Oh, my goodness!  A group of people are working to organize a Community Arts Center.  How did this happen?  The vision of creating a Community Arts Center came into focus through many meetings with artists, community leaders, and educators in a “Think Tank” environment with the question, “How can we effectively introduce the visual arts into Santa Clarita Valley?”  It was decided through families, and to provide a place where families can take their children, or individuals can go to explore their creative potential. 

Beyond preserving your family’s memories for the generations to come, there is a fun, artsy side to scrapbooking inside you that is making cards, altered art or other off-the-page projects.  I designed this photo tray to commemorate my trip to Ireland and England that can hang in my home or be given to my hosts as a great gift item.  This project is suitable for beginners and those of you who have been crafting for years.

The March 15, 2010 meeting of the Santa Clarita Artists’ Association (SCAA) will feature contemporary realist and portrait artist, Aaron Westerberg.  He will be showing his figurative drawing and painting techniques at 7 p.m.
Westerberg was born in San Diego and raised in the rural, mountainous Ramona, one of San Diego County’s oldest communities.  As a child he was inspired by the area’s picturesque surroundings, which included intriguing boulder formations. 

What exactly is a Debutante?  This was a question often asked of the 2010 Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Silver Rose Debutantes.  Traditionally, being a debutante means that a young lady has come of age to be married.  She is presented to society in a ball that would be filled with eligible young bachelors she could possible marry.  In the United States, debutante balls are infamous in the south, where “southern belles,” members of upper class society, are presented in grand elegant white dresses and satin gloves.
