Married to a Colon Hydrotherapist?
That’s correct! My wife is Cindy Krebs, a Colon Hydrotherapist at Optimal Health. Several friends have asked me what my wife does for a living. I state, “She’s a Colon Hydrotherapist!” At first, I get a smirk for a response and then, “Oh, I’ve had that procedure where they put the scope up your rear.” Right location, wrong procedure. People wonder why my wife would choose such a profession.
Dental Hygiene and Fillings
If my tooth doesn’t hurt and my filling is still in place, why would the filling need to be replaced?
Constant pressure from chewing, grinding or clenching can cause dental fillings, or restorations, to wear away, chip or crack. Although you may not be able to tell that your filling is wearing down, your dentist can identify weaknesses in your restorations during a regular check-up.
Is Your Pap Enough, Too Much or Just Right?
Thanks to the commercials for Gardasil, the vaccination against HPV (human papillomavirus), more women of all ages know of its connection to cervical cancer. But do they realize that eight out of 10 adults will have HPV at some point in their lives? Or that cervical cancer remains the second most common cancer in women worldwide, despite the fact that the Pap test has been available for over 50 years?
The Most Durable Mattress
Most mattresses these days are made using innersprings with various foams and fibers layered on top. The innersprings themselves are durable, of course, as they are made of steel. However, the foams and fibers are vulnerable to fast deterioration.
Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Childbirth
Acupuncture and Oriental medicine can provide a safe, effective alternative for many of the health complications that may arise before, during and after pregnancy. A growing number of women are choosing acupuncture to use throughout their pregnancy and as an optional treatment for an overdue or difficult labor.
Independence Day
We fought for our independence; yet continue to find ourselves enmeshed in dependency. Most people faced separation from their families and became individuals. Dependency may feel easier at the moment, but is it an asset or hindrance to our self-esteem? Being dependent allows us to rely on others to provide for our needs, and, supposedly, makes us feel happy, complete and worthwhile. Does it actually help us to feel better about ourselves or less of ourselves?

Almost every patient at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital is seen in the Imaging Services department at least once during their stay, and many patients are seen multiple times.

Taking a Vacation? Make It Easy on Your Feet
Although rest and relaxation are the goals for most vacations, they usually involve a lot of walking and a lot of walking usually involves sore feet.
Balance Your Brain â Balance Your Life
Few things are more damaging to our lives than stress. Work, finances, family and environment can create toxic stress. The impact to health can be overwhelming. Charles Mayo, M.D. states, “Worry and stress affects the circulation, glands, the whole nervous system — it profoundly affects heart action.”
Achilles Tendon Problems
The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the body and encounters large forces during certain activities, often up to several times our body weight. Achilles tendonitis is typically an overuse type of problem, exacerbated by running or walking on hills, or activities like step aerobics. One of the worst things you can do with Achilles tendonitis is to ignore the pain and run or exercise through it.
Summertime Injury?
It’s that time of year again — the kids are out of school, and you are in need of a much deserved break from your everyday work routine. It’s time for a vacation! You decide to break out the boat for the first time this summer and go camping, or you even get your bike out and decide to ride it daily with your kids.

Crossing T’s, Checking Hearts
When the emergency call came in, it was after midnight. A 47-year-old gentleman had presented to the ER with chest pains, which had began 12 hours before.
He had visited a Korean restaurant and eaten to his heart’s content. Soon after, felt chest discomfort under his sternum. Thinking it was indigestion, he pulled up into a McDonald’s and ordered an apple pie with a large cold coke. Drowning his pain, he felt a little better, so he returned back to work.

New Hope Healing Arts A Patientâs View
As I get older, I find that I often wake up with a sore neck or shoulder, even though I’ve tried 10 different types of pillows. In the daytime, I carry my stress in my neck and shoulders, leading to headaches and sometimes nerve pain that travels down my back or arm. I understand it’s a common malady, especially for people who work at computers all day or anyone who does repetitive bending and twisting, like construction workers. If allowed to go undiagnosed or untended, pain in the neck, shoulder and back can lead to chronic ailments and sometimes permanent numbness or paralysis.
When Should I Have My Cataracts Removed?
A cataract is a clouding of the crystalline lens inside the eye. They can range from a very mild clouding which barely affects vision to a very dense “brunescent” cataract that causes blindness. In the United States, some degree of cataract has been reported in 42 percent of those between the ages of 52 to 64, 60 percent of those between the ages 65 and 74, and 91 percent of those between the ages of 75 and 85.
Do Braces Hurt?
This is often the first question I am asked during consultations. It is also one of the toughest to answer.
Pain is subjective in nature. It is unique to each person and there is great variation. We all have different pain thresholds, and we all deal with it differently.
Straightening Crowded Teeth Without Braces Invisalign is the clear solution!
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that helps to straighten teeth through the use of a series of clear plastic molds (aligners). Invisalign or “invisible” braces eliminate the metallic smile that is characteristic of traditional orthodontic braces. Invisalign incorporates a series of clear plastic aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth and are designed to move your teeth gradually into the desired position. Invisalign can be used to correct the following types of mild dental problems:
