Annual Art Night
Creative Years Infant Center & Preschool had its annual Art Night on March 12. This family event brings together the entire school and it is very special for everyone.
OLPH Competes at the Annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles Regional Competition
Our Lady of Perpetual Help School competed against 111 other Catholic schools on March 1 in the 24th annual Archdiocese of Los Angeles regional competition of the California Catholic Schools Academic Junior High Decathlon. The Academic Junior High Decathlon is a competition for students in grades 6-8. There are ten events. Two are collaborative team efforts – a logic quiz with 20 rigorous thinking problems, and a super quiz with 50 multiple choice questions on five broad academic themes. The remaining eight events test individual knowledge of the Roman Catholic doctrine, English, Literature, Science, Mathematics, Current Events, Social Studies, and Fine Arts. Awards are given for individual and team performance, and the winning school team from each geographic diocese competes in a state championship the first Saturday of May each year.

SCV Senior Center’s Celebrity Waiter Dinner Success
Guests took a Journey Through Television on Saturday, February 22, at the Hyatt Regency Valencia for the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center’s Celebrity Waiter dinner. From Grey’s Anatomy, to Gilligan’s Island, The Addam’s Family, NCIS, Happy Days and more, guests were adorned from head to toe, representing celebrities from their favorite television show for the television themed event.
Success at the Chili Cook-Off!
The 2nd Annual SCV Charity Chili Cook-Off, on March 5, proved to be a success, raising approximately $20,000 for the following non-profit organizations: Circle of Hope, Inc., Santa Clarita Child & Family Center, Habitat for Humanity, Hardship2Hope.com and Help Philippine Kids..
Bob Kellar…Roasted!
It was an evening of laughs as City Councilman Bob Kellar served as this year’s roastee at the 16th annual Elks Charity Roast to benefit Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers. The roast took place on March 8, at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge in Canyon Country. Some of the “roasters” included former City Manager Ken Pulskamp, City Manager Ken Striplin, Don Fleming and Steve Arklin.
Ceramic Artist Studio, Inc., (CASI) Showcases Local Talent!
On March 6, CASI instructor Andrea Weskamp was a featured artist at the first Art Slam of 2014. A celebration of female artists kicked off the Thursdays at Newhall with a blast. Andrea’s talents were showcased on the potter’s wheel in front of many fascinated spectators as she created wonderful forms like cups, bowls, vases and bottles out of the clay. Andrea teaches the teen’s classes.
Child & Family Center Kicks Off Taste of the Town 2014!
On Tuesday, January 28, guests gathered for the official launch of the Child & Family Center’s Taste of the Town 2014. Board members, community members, supporters, friends and family joined for appetizers in the Education Building at the Child & Family Center to honor Taste of the Town’s title sponsors, Bank of Santa Clarita and Whitening Lightning, and to learn how to help out at this year’s event.
A Valentine Gala with a Mission
City Council candidate Moazzem Chowdhury officially launched his campaign Saturday, February 15 at the Hyatt Valencia Regency Ballroom. The evening was a celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Over 175 guests attended, dressed for the occasion in formal attire. Catering to the guest’s diverse background, the entertainment consisted of a classical Bangladeshi dance artist, Ballet Folklorico of Santa Clarita Valley, and an Indian Punjabi Bhangra dance group.
Ceramic Artist Studio, Inc., Celebrates Its Grand Opening!
On Friday, February 7, Ceramic Artist Studio Inc., (CASI), had its grand opening in Old Town Newhall. The event was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the brand new, 2,000 square foot ceramics studio. The ceremony included a tour of the studio as well as a live demonstration of a potter’s wheel. Along with refreshments and live music, the town gave a warm welcome to the new “artist’s paradise.”
“Frock the Runway” Charity Fashion Show
On Saturday, February 9, the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) of Santa Clarita hosted a charity fashion show. “Frock the Runway” supported the Habitat For Humanity SFV/SCV at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel to benefit the “WE Build” Women Empowerment Build.

For Love of the California Condor
On Sunday, January 19, nearly 150 community members and nature enthusiasts gathered at the Placerita Canyon Nature Center to learn more about the California condor. Dianne Erskine-Hellrigel, Executive Director of the Community Hiking Club and President of the Santa Clara River Watershed Conservancy, gave an informative and engaging presentation on the plight of the California condor.

Rima Raulinaitis, director of Ceramic Artist Studio, Inc. (CASI) had the honor of being the “Spot Light Speaker” at the latest Arts Commission meeting held January 9.
When the Chair of the Commission, Susan Shapiro, heard the word of the new ceramics studio opening soon, she invited Rima to share more information at the meeting.
