CalVet Collaborates to Build Habitat for Heroes Homes for Veterans
In an unprecedented collaboration to construct the country’s first service enriched Habitat for Heroes veteran village, the California Department of Veteran Affairs (CalVet) announced it has set aside more than $20 million for Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valley (Habitat SF/SCV) to build homes for California veterans and their families living in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Dancing With Our Stars A Great Success!
One word. Phenomenal. The 4th Annual Dancing With Our Stars was a huge success, raising an astounding $260,000 for our non-profit organizations…bringing us to a total of $680,000 over the past four years! Simply amazing!

Showing Their Support Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes
It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon as community members gathered at the Valencia Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes that took place on Saturday, October 13 at the Mann Biomedical Park. Approximately 1,200 participants and volunteers, with 105 teams walking and raising $116,000 to date to support the American Diabetes Association and their mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
The 9th Annual Bras for a Cause – Saluting Our Hometown Heroes
Delicious food, generous guests and beautiful ladies filled the Oaks Grille at TPC on Sunday, October 7 for the 2012 Bras for a Cause – Saluting Our Hometown Heroes. Since the club began sponsoring this event, Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley has raised more than $180,000 to help fund various breast cancer initiatives in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness at Salon Glo
Every year Salon Glo chooses a cause to support in honor of bringing awareness to causes for a cure. The past three years, they have supported an organization called Locks of Love, which is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
Evergreen Animal Care Center Ribbon Cutting
Friends, family and chamber dignitaries and members were in attendance at Evergreen Animal Care Center as they celebrated their grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the new addition of the Pet Resort and remodeling of the center on Thursday, September 27.

On October 12 at noon, Mimi’s in Valencia, a 34-year-old French-inspired neighborhood bistro, re-opened with a new restaurant concept – Mimi’s Bakery, Café & Bistro featuring a new French bakery, gourmet coffee program, carryout section, grab-and-go display, full-service bar and bistro.

It was an evening of glitz and glamour at the First Annual SCV Women & Men of Honor Gala Dinner on Saturday, September 8 at the Valencia Hyatt. Guests enjoyed “A Night at the Coconut Grove” honoring Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and Margo Hudson, while enjoying music from Art Deco Entertainment and Vincent Houser, along with an exciting auction.
Heroin Kills: One Year Later
On Wednesday, August 29 the City of Santa Clarita held a special meeting to update the public on the issue of heroin in our Valley. One year ago, the City started an outreach campaign, Heroin Kills: The High is a Lie, in response to a spike in heroin related deaths and arrests in the Santa Clarita Valley. The public awareness campaign was meant to inform residents that heroin was in Santa Clarita and devastating families.
Enjoying Fine Wine To Benefit the Boys & Girls Club of SCV
On Thursday, August 23, guests gathered for One August Night, A Special Wine Event at Salt Creek Grille in Valencia. Guests joined Talley Vineyards winemaker, Eric Johnson, in a tasting of select wines from their collection. The evening, hosted by Carl and Terry Kanowsky, benefitted the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley.
A Day of Fitness Fun at Fit DU!
It was a day of fitness and fun at Fit Principle’s Fit DU held on August 25 at West Creek Park in Valencia! The Run,Bike,Run duathlon featured exciting obstacle challenges, along with Fit SPRINT, Scooter Dash and a Fit Challenge event for kids and families.

If you haven’t been to SENSES on Main, you must go! Every third Thursday of the month, SENSES on Main Street provides high-energy entertainment, transforming Old Town Newhall into a booming nightlife, complete with food trucks, music, entertainment and more. Each month there is a different theme, and the last three included Toga, Beach and Rockabilly.
Supporting Our Local Law Enforcement
Many gathered at the Bridgeport Park Community Room in Valencia on Friday, August 17 for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Foundation’s annual poker tournament. Guests had a great time enjoying an evening of food and poker all to support a great cause, ultimately helping keep our community safe.
Supporting a Drug Free Youth!
On Friday, August 31, City of Santa Clarita Mayor Frank Ferry along with William S. Hart School District Superintendent Robert Challinor, and other community leaders came to Valencia High School to promote and launch DFYIT (Drug Free Youth In Town). Santa Clarita is the first city in California to partner with the peer based program.
Enjoying Summer to the Last Drop
SCV Education Foundation hosted the Last Sip of Summer on Sunday, August 5 to raise funds for their Student Enrichment Award program which supplies much needed materials to public school teachers for programs that cannot otherwise be funded.
