On the Town

Sunshine, clouds and rainfall did not dampen the spirits of the 350 plus attendees of Sunset in the Vineyard.  Once again, Chris, Jeannie and Tim Carpenter opened their homes to host the occasion, focusing on the local vintners, wine growers and artisans of Santa Clarita. 

Fancy hats, gorgeous clothes and a nod to the wedding of England’s Prince William and Kate Middleton made for a delightful afternoon at the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital Guild’s 27th Annual Fashion Show on October 23.  Dubbed a “Royal Fashion Show,” the event, held in the ballroom of the Sheraton Universal, attracted more than 350 guests and benefited the laboratory department of Henry Mayo.

The AYSO Girls U-16 league soccer team from Castaic, otherwise known as Chivas Castaic, recently spent the evening watching their namesake team, Chivas USA, battle hometown rivals L.A. Galaxy at The Home Depot Center in Carson. 

Sean Murphey Achieves the Top Three Percent. Local Santa Clarita resident Sean Murphey may seem like a normal teenage senior at Valencia High, but on October 16, Sean received his Eagle Merit Badge and is now one of three percent of scouts to achieve Eagle Rank.  Sean is in Scout Troop 228 and his current scoutmaster is Steve Jensen.

The 2011 Rootin’ Tootin’ Wild West Dinner at the home of Bob and Kathy Kellar was a huge success for the Foundation for Children’s Dental Health; the board of directors is very excited that they exceeded their fundraising goal this year.  Guests enjoyed music by The Sierra Highway Band, a Whiskey Tasting Bar, casino games and food by Carmela Louise Catering, a big thank you to the Princess Cruises Community Foundation for donating a cruise for our opportunity drawing. 

It was an evening of excitement and fast moving dice as guests enjoyed a night of Bunco on October 11 at the Valencia Hills Clubhouse. Drinks and appetizers were served and there were many exciting prizes and raffle items.

It was a fun filled evening of delicious appetizers and fine wine at the Breast Cancer Awareness Wine Tasting at Salt Creek Grille on October 6.  Funds raised on the night of the event will benefit the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation and Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, to help raise awareness of the importance of mammograms for early breast cancer detection.    The annual fundraiser will also help raise funds to purchase technology designed to improve outcomes for women undergoing breast reconstructive surgery as a result of breast cancer. The wi-fi enabled ViOptix T.Ox™ Tissue Oximeter measures the oxygen flow in transplanted tissue and transmits the data to any internet accessible device including PDAs, smart phones and personal computers to help clinicians quickly identify potential tissue health risks and initiate appropriate intervention.

On a lovely Thursday afternoon in September, friends, family and residents came down to Old Town Newhall to celebrate the grand opening of Skincare by Valeria.  Supporting Valeria all the way was her husband Joseph Jasik, owner of the German Autohaus business just next door as well as her children, family and friends.

The Sierra Hillbillies Square & Round Dance Club celebrated their 44th anniversary of promoting our American folkdance in the Santa Clarita Valley on September 9 with a dance called by Dale Hoppers and rounds cued by Cindy Mower.

It was a beautiful afternoon as guests gathered for a brunch and fashion show at the Valencia Hills Clubhouse to benefit both the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center and local and national chapters of the American Cancer Society.

It was a lovely night at the Michael Hoefflin Foundation’s 18th annual An Evening Under the Stars Gala Dinner and Charity Auction, which took place on Saturday, September 24 at the beautiful Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia.

Ladies came from all over Santa Clarita and surrounding areas on Sunday, October 3 for the 2011 Bras for a Cause organized by Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley.  With 27 bras on display, including live models, and a backyard BBQ provided by The Oaks Grille, guests enjoyed the afternoon with friends, family and survivors.

This years theme, Decade of Change surely rang true at the American Cancer Society’s annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Thursday, September 22 as friends, family and loved ones gathered to celebrate the gracious volunteers that made this year possible for our SCV Unit.

KTLA’s on-air reporter Allie MacKay paid a visit to Spokes Indoor Cycling for an early morning segment that aired on Wednesday, September 14.

It was an afternoon filled with laughter, smiles and friendly faces at the L.A.R.C. Ranch Reggae Sunsplash Festival.  Guests enjoyed a scrumptious lunch provided by Layne’s Catering as well as the In-N-Out catering truck on site.

On Wednesday, August 17, The Chick-fil-A® restaurant at Valencia Town Center celebrated its first birthday. The store served over 600 people free sandwiches within two hours to guests who brought a birthday card for the restaurant.
