On the Town

Thousands rallied to show their support for the American Cancer Society’s popular Relay for Life Santa Clarita, which took place at Central Park, beginning on Saturday, May 21.  Friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and survivors came together to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remembering those lost to the disease and raising funds to help fight back against the disease.

With the warm days followed by cool It was a totally awesome 80’s auction on Saturday, June 4 as guests stepped back in time at the social event of the season, the 40th Annual Boys & Girls Club Thriller auction-A Flashback to the 80’s. Reena and Tony Newhall, who served as Chairs of the very first Auction back in 1972, returned as this year’s Chairs.  The event also marked Jim Ventress; Chief Professional Officer, 25th year of service to the Club.

Wednesday, May 18 Unruh Spine Center hosted the Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours Mixer. 

A convoy of pink fire trucks visited Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, May 10, to show support for women affected by cancer and to help raise funds for the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center’s patient assistance fund.

The 23rd Annual Child & Family Center’s “Taste of the Town” was held Sunday, May 1 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the beautiful Mann Biomedical Park in Valencia.  The event helped support mental health services for children and families in Santa Clarita Valley.

Poker enthusiasts came out to support the wonderful women of Soroptimist International Santa Clarita Valley on Saturday, May 7.  The night began with delicious food provided by Marcos Catering and rockin’ music by Danny Diaz and Band.  Players enjoyed tournament Texas Hold’em as well as Blackjack throughout the night.  Prior to the official start of the Blackjack Tournament, dealers indulged players with a few rounds of “free” play.  Boy was that a hit!!

On Sunday, May 15, culinary masters teamed up with the Valencia Auto Center, and Newhall Land and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Foundation and the City of Santa Clarita at the Gourmet Food Truck Fest and Classic Car Show on Creekside Road.

Saturday, March 26 Green Thumb Garden Center held it’s 41th Anniversary Spring Opening.  The day was enjoyed by the many visitors in attendance who watched a variety of vendor demonstrations, were treated to hourly giveaways and whose children in attendance could take part in a children’s coloring corner, and were treated to lemonade and popcorn.  It was a lovely day hosted by a great crew.

Over 300 participants were seen “taking their mark” under sunny skies at this year’s Assistance League Footsteps 5K Run/Walk. Johnson Family Foundation, Vance Wealth Group, Inc. and Dr. Paul Levine in memory of Lucille D. Pohley, M.D. and to all the sponsors for their support of the annual Footsteps 5K Run/Walk and Kids 1K Fun Run held on Sunday, April 10th. Gloria Regan, this year’s event Chairman, said  “Your sponsorships helped make a difference in the lives of children in need in the Santa Clarita Valley through our Operation School Bell® program.”

On Saturday, April 9, friends and family gathered to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s annual Great Strides walk in Valencia.  It was a successful event as the streets of Town Center Drive were lined with hundreds of supporters.   After taking three laps around Wesfield’s Valencia Town Center, guests enjoyed live music, delicious food and raffle prizes.

On Saturday, March 19, guests paid tribute to two heroes of the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley at the Elks Lodge in Canyon Country.  The Mardi Gras themed evening honored Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and Hunt Braly along with two dozen other community leaders who were presented with certificates of recognition for all they do for the Domestic Violence Center . 

Saturday, April 9 was a night of friends, family and fun at the third annual Sweet Charity Cake Auction!  This year’s auction was spectacular.  Cake designers wow’ed the crowd with detailed and intricate designs  I had the opportunity to speak with Miss. Kiora Sanchez, 2009 winner for most money raised, whose entry for Infinity Wealth Management was one of my favorite entries.  She not only pushed herself to create something special, she also took a piece of current pop culture by including Angry Birds in her design.

B&R Gallery was happy to host an artist signing for June Carey on Saturday, April 3rd.  Guests enjoyed viewing her beautiful fine art and hand embellishments.

It was another successful fundraising event put on by The Magazine of Santa Clarita, élite Magazine and A~V~O Golfwear at the 3rd Annual Dancing With Our Stars event that took place on Saturday April 2 at the beautiful Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills.
