Several Cub Scouts from Pack 490 honored the 100-year anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America by presenting the morning assembly at Newhall Elementary School, which included a formal flag ceremony led by Webelos Scout David Nohles.

Saturday, February 20, 2010 the 2nd Annual Health & Wellness Fair took place in the COC Cafeteria. Following a smashing first year success, the second annual event was host to hundreds of guests from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Celebrating Prom
It was an evening of fun as the Senior Center Foundation hosted the 2010 Celebrity Waiter Dinner on Saturday, February 27, at the Valencia Hyatt. The “Senior Prom” was a blast, complete with Prom King and Queen and entertainment galore, all to benefit the Adult Daycare Respite Program and Supporting Services.
Mending Hearts
Dr. Samuel Kojoglanian, an Interventional Cardiologist in Newhall, was honored to speak for Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) in their 23rd Annual Leadership Conference on March 13, 2010 in the Ontario Convention Center, inspiring students not only to be men and women of excellence, but to remain humble in their achievements and obtain an attitude of service in their communities.
Pour Into Haiti
On January 21, in between rain storms that threatened all of Santa Clarita, over 250 residents stepped out and into a cause: Pour Into Haiti. Wine, original art and raffle items were donated by Steve and Amy Elzer, Chris and Jeannie Carpenter, Shaunna Hoffman, Derrick and Maureen McKaughan, the Santa Clarita Valley Vintners and Growers Association and All Corked Up.
Honoring Community Member at Elks Lodge
The Santa Clarita Elks Lodge honored public service officials and local students with its annual Community Awards on Monday, March 8. The event took place at the Elks Santa Clarita lodge on Sierra Highway where a diner was cooked by members and served by the Saugus High School Equestrian Team as a show of thanks for the Elks financial contributions to their team.
Community Center Honors Volunteers
The City of Santa Clarita’s Newhall Community Center played host to the “Thanks a Million” dinner and awards ceremony on Wednesday, February 24. Community Center staff members, Julie Calderon, Hope Horner, Darlene D’Amico, and Carmen Hoffman prepared a wonderful banquet and ceremony for their volunteers with city officials in attendance that included, Mayor Laurene Weste and her husband, James McCarthy.

The Magazine of Santa Clarita was proud to host Cub Scout pack 490 Webelos Den 2 on Friday, February 5 when they came to our office to see how we do what we do!

The Castaic Inferno, AYSO GU14, battled the toughest and finest teams in the Santa Clarita valley in the all-star area playoffs.
13th Annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Day
The 13th Annual National Groundhog Job Shadow Day was a smashing success, minus the fact that we got aother few weeks of winter. The day consisted of 120 students, 40 businesses and 90 mentors who spent the day together. Students learned the in’s and out’s of their interested trades while mentors were reminded of why they do what they do.

Ladies came to the Courtyard Marriott on Thursday, January 21 for a night of beauty with A-List Salon owners, Catherine Weber and Sally Van Swearingen.
“Take back your power and strut your stuff!” was the theme of the night as Sally and Catherine showed the women new and exciting make-up and hair tricks and tips.
SCV Eagle Scouts March in the Tournament of Roses Parade
On January 1st, 2010 four Eagle Scouts from the Santa Clarita Valley helped kick off the 100 Anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich Dedicates West Creek Community Park
Friday, January 15 marked a great day for Santa Clarita. A new 17-acre park was dedicated to LA County by Newhall Land. The new park is located in the West Creek Community at 24247 Village Circle right next to Rio Norte Junior High.
The A-List Hair & MakeUp Studio
It was shampoo dreams and caviar cuts at the A-List Hair & MakeUp Studio on Friday, December 18, 2009. The newly-opened salon welcomed many familiar faces as well as new friends as they treated guests with free shampoo’s and styles. Co-owners Catherine Weber and Sally Van Swearingen worked away with free shampoo’s and style consultations to show what they’ve got! They were also happy to share the news of their upcoming hair and makeup classes.
Retro Bill Pays a Visit!
On Thursday, December 17, the City of Santa Clarita and members of the City Council welcomed Retro Bill, a national celebrity spokesperson for the D.A.R.E. program. Retro Bill was on hand to present local S.T.A.R. program Sheriff’s Deputies with his latest instructional video about the D.A.R.E. program for use in the Santa Clarita classrooms.

Audiology Associates celebrated their grand opening and eighth anniversary at their new location, 28322 Valencia Blvd., Suite 103, two doors down from City Hall. The new office is much larger to better service you and bring the same state of the art hearing and balance care services to the SCV.
The Doctor of Inspiration
Dr. Samuel Kojoglanian, an interventional cardiologist and a gifted communicator was invited by UCLA Football Special Teams Coach, Frank Gansz Jr. to inspire the players during Chapel on November 7, 2009. The team won their first game that day after a five game losing streak. Coach Gansz stated, “We were in a drought until Doc encouraged us.”
