The stars were out as Santa Clarita’s best came to shimmy and shake the night away at the first ever Dancing with Our Stars event at the Valencia Hyatt. On Saturday, April 18, twelve couples showcased their dance routines and competed in front of a sold-out crowd of over 350 guests!
A Chivas USA Success
On Sunday, March 1, Chivas USA faced off against the Ventura County Fusion of the Premier Development League in a benefit match in Cougar Stadium at the College of the Canyons.

Family, friends and creative professionals gathered on Sunday, March 15 at The Odyssey Restaurant to celebrate the nominees and winners of the ADDY Awards. The ADDY’s are put on by ADPROS, Advertising Professionals Association, which is a local chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Emcee duties were shared by Bryan Hauge of Stacey Hauge Printing and Will Sherwood of The Sherwood Group.
Legacy Drama Club Performs to Sold-out Audiences
Drama students at Legacy Christian Academy performed the classic “Beauty and the Beast” to large crowds last month. Leading the cast was Julia White as Belle and Tyler Piwowarczyk as the Beast/Prince. Isaiah Del Rosario (Gaston), Ceri Driskill (Lumiere) and Hannah Meacham (Cogsworth) were also part of the talented cast.
Harold and Jacqulyn Petersen Named Silver Spur Honorees
It was a lovely Saturday evening when Harold and Jacqulyn Petersen were honored as Silver Spur Award Recipients for Community Service. The night was co-chaired by Gary and Myrna Condie as well as Jeff and Kiki Hacker.
The New V Australia’s Boeing 777
Realty Executive’s realtor Sally Bond and Bill Wolf owner of EuropebyAir, were part of an exclusive group who had the opportunity to tour the new V Australia’s Boeing 777 airplane after its arrival in LAX. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa took part in the arrival party as well as Virgin Group Chief Executive Brett Godfrey.
An Evening with the Santa Clarita Valley Jaycees
The Santa Clarita Valley Jaycees held their monthly membership meeting on February 12 at the Vines Restaurant at the Hyatt Valencia. Their monthly meetings are designed to network and also promote what is going on in the Santa Clarita community and their own chapter.
Job Shadow Day a Success!
On Wednesday, February 4, Santa Clarita students had the opportunity to get an up-close and personal look at how the skills learned in school are put into action in the workplace. Students were able to shadow a workplace mentor on a normal day on the job.
Be a Principal for a Day!
On January 23, the SCV Education Foundation hosted the 17th Annual Principal for a Day event where participants were able to help support public schools and teachers by becoming a sponsor and shadowing a principal, superintendent or a college student whose goal is to become an educator. Sponsors were able to spend the morning with the principals and superintendents and a special luncheon followed.
Trinity Classical Academy 3rd Graders host their annual Greek Museum
The Trinity Classical Academy 3rd graders held their annual Greek Museum recently which concluded their studies in Greek mythology.
After a rigorous few months of learning about all the Greek gods, each student is assigned a character and memorizes a presentation.
Carl Goldman Gets Roasted for the SDFHC
The roast on Saturday, January 24 of KHTS AM 1220 owner Carl Goldman at the Santa Clarita Elks Lodge No. 2379 in Canyon Country netted nearly $50,000, which will go to Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc. to provide health care services to the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley. This year marked the 11th annual Elks Roast.
Romance at the “Have a Heart Sweetheart Gala”
Love was in the air at the Valencia Hyatt’s Grand Ballroom on February 13, 2009, as over 150 guests celebrated an early Valentine’s Day at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation’s lavish “Have A Heart” Sweetheart Gala. Funds raised from the gala, approximately $100,000, will benefit the Roberta G. Veloz Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Henry Mayo.

The Annual SCV Chamber Installation and Dinner
On Friday, January 30 members of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce as well as guests filled the Valencia Hyatt to attend the 85th Annual Chamber Installation Dinner.
The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce celebrated and applauded outgoing chair Charles Gill as he handed over the gavel to incoming chair Bill Kennedy. Special awards were also bestowed upon unknowing recipients like Sue Renyolds of Newmarket Careers as well as Moe and Linda Hafizi, who received the Chairman of the Year award. A special honor that the Hafizi’s were surprised and delighted by.

The Family Day Care Association of the SCV held their annual Installation and Awards Ceremony Night at Wolf Creek in the banquet room on Tuesday, January 13. It was a dress up affair with a Hollywood themed night of glamour and glitz.

Assistance League “Sunset in the Vineyard”
Over 300 guests enjoyed a glorious afternoon of wine tasting, hors d’ oeuvres, an Autumn vineyard, music and more at the inaugural “Sunset in the Vineyard” event, on Sunday, November 16 to benefit Assistance League. The successful fundraising event took place at the picturesque home and Compa Vineyard of Jeannie, Chris and Tim Carpenter.
