The check increased the Betty Ferguson Foundation’s scholarship endowment to $30,000. (The donation will help create the Betty Ferguson Foundation Education Forum Scholarship which is awarded to a College of the Canyons female student of any age who is either earning a vocational certificate, an associate degree (AA/AS) or is completing her general education requirements for transfer to a four-year university.)
Family Night with the SCV Film Festival
March 11th at 7 p.m., the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) Film Festival will feature a night of short family friendly films made by local filmmakers. The program will include films from this past year’s festival, animation by California Institute of the Arts Alumni and “Rachel’s Fortune,” a live action short film featuring Emma Allebrand, a local Santa Clarita 8-year old in her first film role. “Rachel’s Fortune” pulled from local Santa Clarita talent. It was written, directed and produced by film festival co-founders Ramon Hamilton and Jennifer Fischer.

First Annual Masquerade Ball Benefits Childrenâs Dental Health Organization
With the goal of providing additional dental clinics for underprivileged children, The Children’s Dental Health Organization hosted its first annual Masquerade Ball at the Valencia Country Club on February 8. “We have greatly increased the number of dental clinics from one a year to two a year and we’re planning to have another fundraiser to pay for additional clinic,” explained Santa Clarita City Manager Ken Pulskamp, who co-founded the program 12 years ago

This exciting black-tie soiree was fun filled win-win affair for all who attended, raising more than $107,000 in proceeds which will benefit Henry Mayo’s Cardiac services.
Symphony’s Bon Appétit! Concert Serves up World Renowned Music
Robert Edward Thies, gold medal winner of the prestigious International Prokofiev Competition, and internationally renowned violinist Philip Vaiman, a Russian-born American were the featured artists at the Santa Clarita Symphony’s Bon Appétit! concert held at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia on January 13 in the TPC’s Oak’s Grille restaurant.
