The ABCs of Divorce Communication
While attitude is the key factor in all relationships (see our article in March 2007 issue) breakdown in communication is the part that is visible. Take a divorcing or divorced couple, add intense emotion, a pinch of sensitive issues and you may have the proverbial pot boiling over. Here are some basic tools to smooth the way:
A Smart Choice for Summer Vacation
The weather is warm and school is almost finished for another year. Summer is beckoning you but the questions begin. How can I help my child have a more successful school year? Should we review what they have learned? Would this be a good time for a tutor? How can I help my child to be more organized?
Recreate or Re-create
Somewhere off in a distant land and time (Deerfield Illinois in 1983), I was a college junior. I remember hearing about a class for seniors called “The Christian and Recreation.” I was unable to take this particular course but was curious as to its content. I remember asking myself “What on earth could the curriculum be? What did the syllabus contain? What could seniors possibly do for their final paper or presentation; sit around in lounge chairs, in bathing suits, slowing sipping iced tea?”
New Developments in Capital Gain, Property Taxes
Capital Gain Relief for Widows and Widowers:
Many widows and widowers will have more time to sell the family home and still qualify for the maximum amount of gain that may be excluded under federal income tax. A recently enacted law will offer relief.
Dad’s New Friend: Godsent or Golddigger
You were happy when your widowed father finally met a nice lady and started going out and having fun again. But now, when you call him, the lady friend tells you he’s busy – every time. When you do talk with him or see him, he looks clean and well groomed, but the conversation seems vague. For a moment, you wonder if dad actually recognizes you.
Why do We Have to Prove Who We Are?
Did you know we are all divine souls having a human experience? If we could only see that in one another, life would not have to be such a struggle. By constantly trying to prove ourselves to others and convincing them we are worthy, our capacity to love ourselves becomes polluted.
Whose Dreams are you Living?
Have you ever asked yourself, are you living your own dreams or are you living somebody else’s dream? Do you even have dreams or know what they are? Do you know we all have dreams and we have a choice to make them come true?

Addictive Personality
Many people who are not addicts suffer from an addictive personality. An addictive personality describes someone who has a high vulnerability to participate in a behavior they may, or may not, consciously know is wrong for them. These are often called bad habits or negative behavioral patterns. The most common ones are:
Medi-Cal Planning for Skilled Nursing Care
One of the greatest fears of elderly Americans is that they may require nursing home care. This not only means a great loss of personal autonomy, but also a tremendous financial price. Depending on location and level of care, nursing homes cost between $45,000 and $150,000 per year.

• Between five and 10 percent of children have noticeable speech disorders, most of which have no known cause?
You’re Better Because Of It
I’ve discovered that often times the problem is not found within the seemingly negative circumstance in and of itself that we find ourselves dealing with, but the problem is often found within our perception of that circumstance. You see our perception determines our attitude. Our attitude determines our reaction, and our reaction determines the level in which we allow our circumstance to control us. It’s like the age-old psychological analogy. Is the glass half empty or is it half full? Either way you respond the fact still remains that half of the glass has water and the other half does not. However, one response elicits a very negative attitude, which can ultimately result in a negative conclusion. The other response can elicit a very positive attitude, and ultimately a very positive conclusion. It’s all in how you view your circumstance.
Maintaining the 3 C’s On Stage
One of the most difficult challenges for an entertainer is working through the anxiety of performing in front of an audience. Here are some tips to help you stay cool, calm and collected.
Itâs a Wild Ride
Many of us enjoy going to the amusement park and riding the gut shaker roller coaster that races to its highest point and then suddenly goes hurtling some 360 feet down the track at 90 miles an hour. However, riding out the stock market’s ups and downs can be a very different experience. Those are the times of market volatility and if you’re not prepared for them, they can be extremely unsettling.
Conventional wisdom tells us that what goes up must come down. But even if you view market volatility as a normal occurrence, it can be tough to handle when your money is at stake.
So when the markets spike, dive or slide, ask yourself:
Some Choices to Consider When Repaying Debt
When faced with the realization that all debt cannot be paid on time, the choices we make must be carefully evaluated to avoid further complication of the situation in the future. Each situation is unique and requires personalized analysis to develop a long-term plan on the road to financial security. Here I will try to lay out some general choices that most people make at one time or another when faced with financial problems and the pitfalls that can go along with these choices.

New AARP Pamphlet âPrepare to Careâ A Planning Guide for Families
Most Americans understand why it is important to plan for the future. But when it comes to caring for an aging loved one, most families don’t have a plan until there is a problem. AARP understands lack of planning does not mean there is a lack of commitment. Often families avoid discussions about the future simply because they don’t want to think about changes in the lives of the people they love most. Putting together a care giving plan helps eliminate problems at home and at work.
